Hello all you elastic beans of joy! Do you like to dance? Are you looking for a class that isn't based in learning choreography? Want a place to explore movement with like minded folks in a consentual space? The Meatbag Movement MeetUp is the place for you! Where: Suite 321A DANSpace at the Lighthouse Arts Center Suite 321A 1800 Argyle St, Halifax, NS B3J 2V9 (the space is accessible by ramp or stairs at the front door and via elevator to the 3rd floor, we need to double check about accessible washrooms, although I do recall they are present adjacent to the space) When: 2-4PM November 10 PWYC/suggested donation $5 (no one turned away for lack of funds, all the proceeds go to space hire) What to expect: Join us for a 2hr session of exploration, play and free dance co-facilitated by Francine and Regan. (Francine has done physical theatre and movement practice in a bunch of places but here is her favourite, Regan danced with Fadadance in Saskatchewan for years and wants to share her experience!) The plan is to start with a short check in with the group, then have a warm up with some guided prompts for the first hour, getting ourselves into our bodies and discovering possibilities through improv. The second hour we take those discoveries and just move! Why: Our aim is that we'll have these monthly. Depending on how the vibe grows, we could open up the guided first half if folks have exercises or ideas they want to share We want to co-create a brave space where we all feel we can share the joy of simply being present in our bodies. To celebrate Book Week Scotland, Lavery will talk with National Librarian Amina Shah about the process of writing the book and how her experiences as a woman of colour in Scotland have shaped her writing. About the book In 'Unwritten Woman', formerly quieted realities are pushed to the front. The collection, part re-telling of Robert Louis Stevenson's 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde', spotlights the women once written out. She was appointed Edinburgh Makar in November 2021 for a three-year term.
