For over two decades, Zimbabwean artist Portia Zwawahela (b. 1985) has been creating works imbued with intimate emotions and spiritual tension. Her inspiration lies in a visual spectrum interwoven with dream experiences, religious spirituality, and Zimbabwean cultural traditions and iconography. This exhibition at the Friedrich-Arumen Museum, showcasing significant works created between 2019 and 2024, offers a window into Zwawahela's artistic world.

Join us as we explore the scale of the universe from right here on planet Earth out to the most distant galaxies inside our inflatable planetarium. Step outside to gaze at the night sky and look through telescopes with local astronomers from Abingdon Astronomical Society who will share their passion and knowledge as your cosmic tour guides. Plus we’re thrilled to welcome a special guest—Oxford’s very own Space Store! They’ll be bringing replica Tim Peake space suits and real meteorites for you to explore up close, adding an exciting hands-on experience to your evening under the stars. Join Hauser & Wirth Somerset for an exclusive after-hours exhibition tour of the Franz West Presentation in ‘GRUPPENAUSSTELLUNG’ Act Two. Led by Ines Turian, the Managing Director of Franz West Werknutzungsgesellschaft, this guided walkthrough offers a unique opportunity to delve into the works of the renowned Austrian artist and explore key themes within his prolific career. The event will take place at Hauser & Wirth Somerset in Bruton. Admission is free, but advance booking is required. We kindly encourage attendees to consider making a donation to our charity partner, Bruton Community Library, for the years 2023-2024. ‘GRUPPENAUSSTELLUNG’ is a playful celebration of Hauser & Wirth's Swiss heritage, featuring over 20 artists in a multidisciplinary exhibition. Inspired by the concept of a traditional Kunsthalle, the showcase aims to engage a broad audience and provoke thought on contemporary issues. The exhibition will be on view at Hauser & Wirth Somerset until January 1, 2024. Franz West (1947 – 2012) was a modern master of the late 20th Century, best known for his interactive installations that blurred the lines between art and the outside world. His artmaking often involved audience participation, chance, and multiple interpretations. West believed in the power of connection and community, challenging traditional notions of authorship. Ines Turian, the Managing Director of Franz West Werknutzungsgesellschaft, will guide the tour. Turian worked closely with Franz West from 1997 to 2012 and has edited important publications on the artist. She studied Art History in Vienna and Frankfurt/Main. The Prodigy are an English electronic dance music band formed in Braintree, Essex, in 1990 by producer, keyboardist, and songwriter Liam Howlett.
