The LICHTER International Film Festival Frankfurt is a celebration of cinema. It brings together guests from all over the world to engage with local audiences and creatives. In 2022, the festival celebrates its 15th anniversary. The role of a bridge between cinema, artistic expression and social dialogue makes LICHTER unique among German film festivals. The LICHTER philosophy is easy to explain: just as a hand consists of five fingers, the LICHTER Film Festival also consists of five parts. Just as a hand can clench its fingers into a fist, LICHTER also brings its five parts together into a strong whole that pushes things forward every year.

From May 2nd to 9th, 2026, Frankfurt will once again celebrate the culture of green sauces, with Ross Market transformed into a grand stage showcasing this traditional specialty made from seven herbs. The festival market, opening on April 28th, will feature a variety of specialties, a cheese-eating contest, and a "May Ball."

The origins of this festival are unclear, but traditionally, many Frankfurt residents would take a day off on the Tuesday following Pentecost to visit the festival site. Although only a few companies still maintain this tradition today, the Forest Festival still holds a very special significance in Frankfurt. Even though in a metropolis like Frankfurt today only a minority can take a day off for Forest Festival (Wäldchestag) as in the past, for most Frankfurt residents, a visit to the city forest on Pentecost weekend, especially on Forest Festival itself (Tuesday), remains essential. Those without company time off will also gather with colleagues after get off work at a beer garden in the forest or enjoy a chilled wine under the shade of trees on the weekend.

The Main Festival, held along the Main River boulevard, Faltor Square, and Römerberg, is one of Frankfurt's oldest public festivals. Today, the Main Festival and its large summer gardens along the river offer a wonderful way to experience the Main and its surrounding scenery. The consecration of the Church of the Three Kings (Dreikönigskirche) on July 23, 1340, is considered the origin of the Main Festival. Fishermen and boatmen developed their fishing festival as a way to express their reverence for "the river and its gifts." Celebrations include roasted beef, wine made from Main spring water, performances of Passion plays by schoolchildren in "Himmelreich huts" (cabins), goose plucking, duck fishing, firecrackers, fireworks, and colorful processions of four to six people along the banks of the Main.

Franz West (1947 – 2012) was a modern master of the late 20th Century, best known for his interactive installations that blurred the lines between art and the outside world. His artmaking often involved audience participation, chance, and multiple interpretations. West believed in the power of connection and community, challenging traditional notions of authorship. Ines Turian, the Managing Director of Franz West Werknutzungsgesellschaft, will guide the tour. Turian worked closely with Franz West from 1997 to 2012 and has edited important publications on the artist. She studied Art History in Vienna and Frankfurt/Main.
