Björn Rzoska, a historian, will provide a captivating account of his personal journey to uncover the wartime experiences of his grandfathers, who were a Flemish collaborator and a Polish freedom fighter. Through extensive research using unprecedented historical sources from both Belgium and abroad, Rzoska reconstructs their intertwined stories and their close proximity in Waasmunster. This exploration not only sheds light on the individual experiences of ordinary people during World War II but also prompts a reassessment of family narratives. Rzoska's visit to significant locations such as Lalkowy and Wroclaw in Poland and Montormel in Normandy enhances his understanding of his family's history. Ultimately, 'Gedeelde grond' showcases how these personal stories remain relevant today. Björn Rzoska's expertise as a historian and personal connection to the subject matter make this book a compelling read. Prior to this publication, Rzoska authored a book on the post-war internment center in Lokeren, and he has extensive experience as a former member of the Flemish Parliament and a current council member in Lokeren.
