Dec 15, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bristol
Arts
Orchestra
Bristol Ensemble performs an intriguing programme of contemporary works in the unique setting of Bristol 1904 Arts Club. In C is a musical piece composed by Terry Riley in 1964 for an indefinite number of performers. A series of short melodic fragments that can be repeated at the discretion of musicians, In C is often cited as the first minimalist composition to make a significant impact on the public consciousness. A photo of a young couple sitting on a beach in 1937 was the inspiration for Peter McGarr's Vanishing Games. The music travels through their imagined life: childhood games, love songs, landscapes and lullabies, always returning the original snapshot, with the words written on the back - 'Monica and I at Kimnel Bay, 1937.' The programme also includes works by Ruth Gipps for solo oboe, and Anna Meredith's Blackfriars for string quartet. Free glass of mulled wine and mince pies included. We are grateful to the Vaughan Williams Foundation for its support. Information Source: Bristol Ensemble | eventbrite

About The Class Life Drawing in Bristol, a weekly untutored life drawing class, is coming to Centrespace Gallery on Tuesday December 10th for a special animal-themed life drawing session with live models, as part of RTiiiKA's Monkey Business exhibition! Taking place from 7-8:30pm, this one-off life drawing session will feature models inhabiting the form of various animals - expect masks, animalistic poses and lots of fun. The class is led by artist Beth Kirby, and will be untutored for you to draw as you please. Basic materials including paper, drawing boards, charocal and pencils will be included free of charge, but we encourage you to bring along your own materials too. Pose lengths will vary from 2 minutes to 20, with a break in the middle to admire RTiiiKA's incredible artwork, which will be throughout the space as we draw. About Monkey Business Monkey Business presents new work by RTiiiKA inspired by the fluid and varied expressions of biological sex and sexual behaviour found in the animal kingdom. Monkey Business is about celebrating queerness across all species and expanding my own understanding of who I am in the world. During my research I learnt about lesbian lizards, non-monogamous songbirds, sex-changing clownfish, and promiscuous monkeys – there is SO MUCH queer behaviour that is being uncovered. About RTiiiKA RTiiiKA is Rosa ter Kuile, a visual artist whose work encompasses murals, illustration, academic collaborations, and activism, often employing a queer lens to explore and expand contrasting narratives. RTiiiKA is the designer behind the Bristol Beacon’s new look and mural, the founder of Bristol Mural Collective and Bristol's Smallest Street Art Festival. Her studio is next door at Centrespace Studios. Information Source: Beth Kirby | eventbrite
