This class is designed for a full day of turning. In the morning you turn a Pen and the afternoon you turn a bowl. Pen Turning Description: You can make the great looking pens, ones that are as unique as those available in fine gift shops. Learn the tips and techniques that produce excellent results every time. You will be shown how to cut, drill, square the ends, turn, sand, apply a durable finish quickly and then assemble the parts. You start with a raw piece of wood, a pen kit with hardware, a Lathe, and by the end of class you have a beautiful, functional piece of woodworking that you did yourself. Learn the fundamentals of creating a pen from wood selection, tool selection and proper lathe techniques to finishing. Soon you will be making pens for all your friends. Bowl Turning Description: Each student will turn a bowl. Blanks will be mounted and the outside shaped including a tenon. The blank will be reversed and held in a chuck while the inside is hollowed and smoothed. The blank is finally reversed to turn away the tenon. Students will practice the cuts appropriate for shaping and smoothing the inside and outside using a bowl gouge and a scraper. At the end of class students should be able to turn a bowl on their own. This is a comprehensive 7.5 hour class with a 30 minute lunch break. All class participants receive a 15% discount on merchandise purchased in the store on the same day of their class. This intense two-day course, taught by renowned instructor Greg Ellifritz, will equip you with the critical skills needed to survive in extreme close range gunfights. With up to 50% of gunfight fatalities occurring at distances closer than five feet, it's crucial to have the right skill set.
During this comprehensive training, you will learn retention shooting positions, body positioning and shooting stances for close quarters combat, in-fight weapons access and drawing skills, and much more. Greg's expertise and experience as a former police officer and tactical training officer make him the ideal instructor for this course.
To participate, it is essential to possess proper gunhandling skills and prior training. While prior training in a combative martial art or police defensive tactics class is beneficial, it is not required. This is a level 2-3 class, so if you are an experienced bread baker, already experimented with sourdough baking and want to go deeper, this class is for you.
Bread baking experience with sourdough is necessary to attend this course.
In this workshop you will deeply explore the science of baking with sourdough: We will be making one or more bread recipes (and go through the various steps), while also discussing all aspects of making, feeding and maintaining a starter culture.
We will also discuss the tools of sourdough management, recipe development, baker's math and how develop certain properties in your final product using more advanced techniques. We will also look into baking with different grains, like rye and spelt and how raw material choices, influence the outcome of the bake. Experience the second day of our Extreme Close Quarters Gunfighting class, a must for anyone who has taken our one-day ECQ gunfighting classes in the past two years. This standalone class builds upon the concepts introduced in day one and equips you with the essential skills needed for extreme close range gunfighting. With up to 50% of gunfight fatalities occurring at ranges closer than five feet, this skill set is vital.
Led by Greg Ellifritz, a highly experienced instructor who recently retired after serving 25 years as a police officer, this two-day course covers a wide range of topics including dealing with multiple attackers, empty hand attacks, partner rescue scenarios, and attackers charging with contact weapons. In addition, you will learn retention shooting positions, in-fight weapons access and drawing skills, and close quarters gun disarms. Ground fighting techniques will also be covered if time allows.
Please note that this is not a class for beginners. Prior gunhandling skills and training are prerequisites for this course. Additionally, students must be able to safely load, unload, and fire a handgun without instruction, draw safely from a holster, shoot one-handed, and clear malfunctions without instruction. Basic equipment including a handgun, sturdy belt-mounted holster, spare reloading devices, eye and ear protection, and 150 rounds of ammunition are required.

Parking Lot Pistol (Culpepper, VA) | Culpeper

Join the intermediate level training in the protective use of the pistol, known as the Parking Lot Pistol course, taking place in Culpeper, VA. This intensive full-day course is designed to equip armed citizens who carry concealed handguns, as well as plain clothes or off-duty police officers, with the necessary skills to successfully defend themselves with a pistol. Led by experienced instructors Ryan McCann and Aqil Qadir, this course is ideal for true intermediate (or higher) level students.
Before participating in this course, it is important to have formal training on how to work from a holster safely. To ensure the safety of all participants, a skills assessment will be conducted at the beginning to determine if the student possesses the requisite skills. The curriculum will cover various topics, including engaging targets at close ranges, shooting one-handed, engaging animated threats, shooting with a cognitive load, understanding and utilizing cover, engaging targets beyond typical pistol ranges, effective movement and shooting, and the effective use of cover.
To fully participate in the course, attendees should bring their own equipment, including a reliable handgun, holster, belt, and magazine pouch. Additionally, they should have at least three magazines, a ball cap, and a concealment garment such as a vest, jacket, or windbreaker. Eye and ear protection are also required. Be prepared to fire approximately 600 rounds of ammunition throughout the course.

These lessons will prepare dancers for the 200th Anniversary of the Lafayette Ball in Culpeper August 23, 2025. (1 year away!)
