Last year my friend Matt Wilkes turned to me and, almost under his breath, raised the topic of the Karakoram. He was planning a trip to Hunza and was looking for a flying partner. It was clear that neither of us were sure whether I was ready for such a trip.. Come join us for an exciting evening filled with adventure as Ollie Carr and Matt Wilkes share their experiences flying in the Karakoram mountains. Including bits of breathtaking footage. They will also be showing what gear they used for flying at high altitudes, in remote terrain. Get ready to be inspired by their stories and awesome footage from their trip! Selina's presentation will focus on 12 colour drawings in oil pastel of Borrowdale’s renowned wild flowers, plants and fungi reflecting their colours, fine detail and scale.They have all been drawn on location throughout the seasons whilst staying at Borrowdale (Longthwaite) Youth Hostel. She will be presenting the 12 original drawings along with a short talk and slide presentation about the process, experience and time spent drawing in Borrowdale between Summer 2024 & Spring 2025. She will also display sketches and the materials used to create the drawings. Enlarged copies of the 12 drawings will be on display in the Methodist Chapel in Grange during Spring and Summer 2025. Join us for a social ride around Derwentwater. This is a really laid back, enjoyable ride with lots of stops, ideal for those who have ridden before or want to ride more but don't really want to go out by themselves and fancy an enjoyable ride with other women. Nobody left behind. This group is not for those who want to speed off and get round in the quickest time, we want the group to enjoy themselves and grow their confidence. If you're heading up a hill, we understand you want to keep up momentum and power through to the top, that's totally fine but please wait at the top for others to catch up if you are the first. The route will take us down the Borrowdale road to Grange. There we will cross the bridge taking us to the other side of the lake where we meet a hill. It's not massively steep but is a little slog for a around 1 1/2 kilometer. The road will then take us down until we reach the turning for the Swinside where we will take the right past the pub and onwards to Braithwaite. Just before braithwaite there is one steep but very short climb, anyone is welcome to get off and push, no pressure. Once we head to the end of Braithwaite we'll follow the cycle path back into keswick, head round the back of the swimming pool and into the main street back down to Alpkit. It totals 20km with 270m of ascent and a gpx file can be given to anyone who wants it. This is not a guided ride by a professional road/mtb guide, just led by a member of staff who knows the way, so everyone should be confident enough to be on the roads and know how to change a tyre if they get a puncture. Please make sure your bike is in good working order, are dressed for the weather and have a helmet. We can take as many snack stops as we want so pack your favourites! What To Expect: Some of the things that you will learn include: - Run through the M-check procedure of making sure a bike is safe. - Chain cleaning, lubricating and checking stretch. - Brake pad check - How to change and adjust your brakes. - Check and tighten a loose headset - Trail repairs for changing a tube and repairing a snapped chain Don't worry, you'll get a break in the middle and Alpkit will provide all the drinks and snacks that you could need. The George Fisher Tea Round is a circa 30 mile route with 12,000+ feet of elevation that starts and finishes at the doors of the George Fisher in Keswick. Choose your challenge and how you take it on with a 32 mile route and shorter 14 mile option (espresso round) depending on the scale of the challenge you want to take.
