The imaginatively refurbished RIBA award-winning farmhouse and barns opens up its extensive collections of art, crafts, books and vintage design, telling alternative histories of the Lake District by the myriad of creative people the house has hosted over the last 25 years. In the 12 acres of land around Lawson Park, artist / film maker and Head Gardener Karen Guthrie has created an inspirational series of gardens from scratch. Recently featured on BBC Gardener's World, the gardens have hosted visits from gardeners Adam Frost, Huw Richards, Stephanie Hafferty and Piet Oudolf. Visit The Paddies, a mountainside allotment created by Japanese farmers; The Meadow, two wildflower-rich and biodiverse acres to get lost in; The Brexit Orchard, a collection of European apple varieties and The Farmhouse Garden, a riotously colourful frame to the historic drystone wall farmstead. During the Open House & Garden, Karen is on hand to lead tours which cover her design principles and chemical-free, no-dig approach to garden-making. AMIGO THE DEVIL - LIVE at Knox Hall | Knox Hall

Jul 9, 2025 (UTC-4)
Greater Sudbury Division
Concerts
Alternative
In the vast realm of modern folk and alternative rock, Amigo The Devil is an artist who channels a voice of unsettling beauty and raw truth. Splicing alarming honesty with personal realizations, his narratives carry weight, wisdom and wit. Nestled within the corners of Amigo the Devil’s haunting melodies and daring experimentation lies a tale as profound as the dirges he sings. With a brilliant mind, full soul and a penchant for the obscure, Amigo the Devil’s songwriting harkens back to a more brutal state of songwriting. His songs are greatly influenced by the honesty of Leonard Cohen, the creativity of Tom Waits and the ruthlessness of Chavela Vargas. Rather than imitate, he identifies with their authentic disregard of consequences when it comes to songwriting and releasing music. Amigo the Devil is not polished or clean – he’s all heart, with reckless abandon. His understanding of emotions is deep and instinctual, choosing to embrace one’s flaws instead of trying to change them. In a world filled with fleeting tunes and temporary stars, artists like Amigo the Devil are the reminders of the power of storytelling – of music’s age-old role in narrating human emotion. Kiranos seems to be on a lifelong journey, not just of personal discovery, but of reminding us all of the roots, the rawness and the reality that music can offer. Despite his growing notoriety, Amigo the Devil remains enigmatic. He isn't one to bask in the limelight, choosing once again to let his art speak for itself. Northern and Rural Community Safety Symposium | 935 Ramsey Lake Rd

Aug 26, 2025 (UTC-4)
Greater Sudbury Division
Cultural Experiences
Welcome to the Northern and Rural Community Safety Symposium! Date: August 26th, 2025 Location: Laurentian University - 935 Ramsey Lake Rd, Sudbury, ON (Fraser Building) Welcome to the 1st Biennial Northern and Rural Community Safety Symposium! This one-day tricultural event brings together researchers, practitioners, community stakeholders, and those with lived experience to discuss and exchange knowledge, challenges, experiences, research findings, and perceptions on northern and rural community safety (NRCS). Northern and rural communities have unique safety concerns compared to urban areas, and the geographical and social differences make responses particularly complex. Community consultation has led to the identification of three primary themes: Sex Trafficking, Intimate Partner Violence, and Mental Health and Addiction. This symposium is meant to respond to the intricate nature of NRCS and bring academics and community stakeholders together, which we hope will be the first step in a collective effort to respond to community safety in northern and rural communities. We anticipate the relationships, experiences, and knowledge fostered by the symposium can be leveraged to produce collaborative and community-based innovations and responses. This is your chance to share, learn from, or engage with experiences of community safety! Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for the registration and website to be live momentarily.
