Songwriters have long been drawn to the subject of loss and longing. Sad songs give voice to the universal experiences of rejection, unrequited love and the yearning for things to be other than they are. In this show with music by Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Burt Bacharach and Roberts Burns, among others, we explore the enduring appeal of sad songs, and how, strangely, they make us feel better.
