Join our specialist tutor, Michael Lin, in this “Mitsuro Hikime” (also known as Mitsuro wax) class. Experience creating jewellery using the renowned traditional Japanese wax forming technique known for its delicate striations and fluid forms. This class is great for people at different levels, from the beginner who wants to start creating unique pieces to experienced jewellers who are looking for an alternative way of working with wax. Supplied with a set amount of especially formulated wax, you will learn traditional techniques to manipulate “Mitsuro Hikime” wax and create a ring or pendant under Michael's expert instruction. In this session you will be able to immerse yourself into the 'intuitive making' philosophy of Japanese craft and create your distinctive pieces of art. Your piece will then be cast into solid silver by an expert casting team where it will be returned to you in it's finished hallmark-able state. This is an important part of the process where, as a school, we take professional steps to ensure the casting is of the highest possible quality so that the detail created in the wax is not lost in the finished silver piece. A perfect class for both beginners and more experienced makers, this one day session will teach you how to use traditional jewellers’ tools where you will learn how to measure, cut, solder, and texture a set of three stacking rings. All tools and equipment are provided, and the silver is included in the cost of the class, where you will end the day with beautiful personalised set of stacking rings! This class is perfect for the uninitiated looking to take their first steps in jewellery making, or for a small group of family, friends, or colleagues looking to learn something new or enjoy some creative fun.
