Join us for an epic fitness challenge at Origin Fitness. Our previous 3 sims have sold out, so don't delay in securing your spot. Get ready to push your limits and test your strength and endurance in our Hyrox simulation event. This is a full race simulation with competition weights and distance. If you've never tried Hyrox before, the race is set out as follows: 1km run, 1000m skierg, 1km run, 50m sled push, 1km run, 50m sled pull, 1km run, 80m broadjump burpee, 1km run, 1000m row, 1km run, 200m farmers carry, 1km run, 100m sandbag lunges, 1km run, 100 wall balls The run will be a 1km loop outdoors and the exercise stations will be a mix of indoors and outdoors (most are indoors). We will be running waves every 20 minutes and have open categories as follows: Singles Men, Singles Women, Doubles Men, Doubles Women, Mixed Doubles Preworkout, recovery drinks, snacks & goody bags will be provided. Entrance fee is €35pp. We will contact you after booking to confirm your start time and category. Join us for a conversation with Colin Barrett as he nears the end of his term as Writer-in-Residence at UCD – a year in which his debut novel Wild Houses was published and subsequently longlisted for the Booker Prize. The conversation will also feature Declan Meade, Publisher/Chief Executive of The Stinging Fly, which published several of Barrett’s early stories as well as his first collection Young Skins (2013). In conversation with Niamh Campbell (author of This Happy and We Were Young), we’ll hear about Barrett’s journey as a writer as well as Irish writing infrastructures, the novel and the short story, literary journals, literary prizes, and more. The conversation will begin at 2pm; a coffee reception will precede the event at 1:30. Supported by the Research Ireland-funded project The Publishing Infrastructures of Contemporary Anglophone Literature (led by Dr Tim Groenland, School of English, Drama and Film, UCD), and presented in association with the UCD Mary Lavin Centre for Creative Writing.

On Friday 31st January 2025 at 5.15pm the Trapdoor @ UCD and the UCD School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics are hosting the newly-commissioned choral composition, sung by the renowned Dublin-based choir the Mornington Singers under conductor Dr Orla Flanagan. This is the world première of a freshly composed work by Irish composer Dr Gráinne Mulvey to accompany a poem inspired by Ferdinand de Saussure, and written by London-based Hungarian poet Zsuzsanna Ardò. The performance will be acccompanied by a short discussion around Saussure chaired by Dr Síofra Pierse and will be followed by a reception. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Poems: Szuzsanna Ardó Zsuzsanna Ardó is human by inclination, humorous, curious and creative by nature — and an award-winning visual artist and writer by profession. Her work has received awards and been awarded artist residencies by various organisations, e.g. Arts Council England, High Arctic Expedition, AL New York, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Il Bisonte Florence, Britten Pears Arts, Tyrone Guthrie Centre, European Artists, UNESCO. Music: Gráinne Mulvey Gráinne Mulvey is a composer of acoustic and electronic music. She also likes to collaborate with other art forms particularly video, dance, art installations and liaise with improv groups. Mornington Singers conducted by Órla Flanagan Mornington Singers is an award-winning mixed-voice chamber choir based in Dublin, Ireland and conducted by Orla Flanagan. Mornington Singers was the winner of the 4th International Baltic Sea Choir Competition held in Jūrmala, Latvia in September 2019. The choir was named Ireland’s Choir of the Year 2019 at the 65th Cork International Choral Festival. UCD Trapdoor, Newman Building (Lower Ground Floor) With her practice rooted in collaboration, Justine Doswell invites us to a sharing of her work, choreographic process and recent excerpts of research. Justine has been based at UCD’s Creative Futures Academy and in the College of Arts and Humanities through the generous support of Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council’s Arts Office. In conversation with Dr. Victoria Durrer (School of Art History and Cultural Policy), meet Justine and connect with her experiences during her time as the 2024 UCD Trapdoor dance artist in residence. Dance artist, choreographer and creative producer, Justine Doswell has worked with numerous notable Irish and international choreographers, directors and companies. Inspired by dynamic structure and living systems, she is an Arts Council Next Generation 2021 recipient and 2021-23 Irish Modern Dance Theatre (IMDT) Associate Artist. Choreographic highlights include the premiere of new full length creation, “Messier 45” (Dance Cork Firkin Crane 2023), “Is there balm in Gilead?”(IMDT 2022 commission, film screened at various prestigious 2023 international film festivals) and “dyad” - a live performance film in St Patrick’s Cathedral (Dublin Dance Festival 2021 Summer Edition).
