Autumn Challenge 2024 Walk 4 Broseley and Back 6.5 miles | Iron Bridge Tollhouse

Taking a woodland path we climb out of the gorge via steps and then a meadow, to reach Workhouse Coppice and the jitties of Broseley wood. After exploring several of these we loop up into town, exploring the town and the High Street before dropping towards Jackfield through woodland. We loop around Jackfield then return to Ironbridge via the old railway. Grade of Walk: Moderate Pace: Leisurely Terrain: Mixed - Quiet roads, gravel tracks, woodland, field paths some sections may be muddy! Steps and Stiles: Steps up and down, with a long flight of steps up at the start of the walk, no stiles Dog Friendly: YES Dogs to be kept on leads unless agreed with walk leader. Walk Leader: Jane Warman Specific Walk Information General Information for Walkers All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections. Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather- possibly both in the same day! Children ( Under 18’s ) are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility and be capable of the distance, pace and duration of the walk. Please allow plenty of time to reach your event, parking can be tricky in the gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. For information on local bus services seewww.arrivabus.co.uk or www.telfordpublictransport.co.uk . Medals are available for anyone completing 25 or 50 miles over the challenge weekends and will be presented on Sunday 29th September at The All Nations Inn Madeley at 16.30 p.m.

Leaving Coalport we climb out of the gorge across Great Hay Golf Course, taking field paths to Brockton and Kemberton, before following the River Worfe to Grindleforge through a lovely wooded dingle. We continue across fields to Ryton, before returning via lanes and fields to Sutton Maddock. From here we drop back to Coalport, down through Sutton Woods and along the Silkin Way. Grade of Walk: Moderate Pace: Steady Terrain: Mixed - Field paths, lanes, woodland. Some sections may be muddy! A walk that links many known and lesser known heritage sites that give us glimpses of what it might have been like in this area back in the 18th and 19th century. We start, appropriately, at the iconic Ironbridge, and we include a wide variety of sites ranging from the 200 foot Chimney in Telford park to a fascinating Quaker burial ground in Coalbrookdale. We use old trails to walk through beautiful green areas with pools and ancient woodland. Stopping for lunch at the Chelsea gardens in Telford park, we make our way back via further old ways spotting more evidence of this areas amazing industrial heritage on our way. Autumn Challenge 2024 Walk 8 Where It Began 6.5 miles | Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge Community Centre

Telford started life as Dawley New Town. This walk explores one of the less visited original towns of the area and the regeneration it inspired. From Coalbrookdale, we follow the line of the railway to reach Dawley Pools and Little Dawley. We then loop up through Langleyfield before reaching the High Street which we follow to reach Dawley town park. We head towards Pool Hill, Doseley and Little Dawley, before dropping back to Coalbrookdale through Lightmoor. Grade of Walk: Easy/Moderate Pace: Leisurely Terrain: Mixed - Quiet roads, gravel tracks, woodland, field paths some sections may be muddy!
