Kate McKinnon is an award-winning performer and writer, known for her work in film and television. Young readers will recognize her voice role as ‘Ms. Frizzle’ in The Magic School Bus Rides Again for Netflix. She recently played ‘Weird Barbie’ in Greta Gerwig’s worldwide blockbuster hit, Barbie. She was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2012 to 2022, where she became known for her character work and celebrity impressions. . “It comes as no surprise that Kate McKinnon writes with the same unique sense of humor and heart that has made audiences fall in love with her time and again. Her quirky and unforgettable characters in The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science will have readers laughing out loud and plotting experiments for many generations to come.”―Chris Colfer, New York Times bestselling author of the Land of Stories series. . The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science is McKinnon's debut novel for young readers. . So, you want to be a young mad scientist. Congratulations! Admitting it is the first step. The second step is reading the (definitely true) tale of the Porch sisters… . Gertrude, Eugenia, and Dee-Dee Porch do not belong. They don’t belong in the snooty town of Antiquarium, where all girls have to go to etiquette school and the only dog allowed is the bichon frise. They don’t belong with their adoptive family, where all their cousins are named Lavinia and their Aunt has more brooches than books. And they certainly don’t belong at Mrs. Wintermacher’s etiquette school—they’re far more interested in science. After getting kicked out of the last etiquette school that would take them, the girls expect to be sent away for good… until they receive a mysterious invitation to new school. , Suddenly the girls are under the tutelage of the infamous Millicent Quibb—a mad scientist with worms in her hair and oysters in her bathtub. At 231 Mysterium Way, the pizza is fatal, the bus is powered by Gerbils, and the Dean of Students is a hermit crab. Dangerous? Yes! More fun than they’ve ever had? Absolutely! But when the sisters are asked to save their town from an evil cabal of nefarious mad scientists, they must learn to embrace what has always made them stand out, and determine what side they’re on—before it’s too late! In For A Penny: Expanded Script | The Broadwater BlackBox

Arts
In For A Penny: Expanded Script Fresh from our Best Drama-Nominated run in the Hollywood Fringe, In For A Penny returns in an expanded telling, further exploring Crystal Keith's themes of feminism, patriarchy, and survival in a world where everyone knows they're on their own. The consistent response in our overwhelmingly positive audience reviews was We want more: more story, more drama, more time with these fascinating characters navigating terrible circumstances. Please join us for a work-in-progress presentation of the first evening length draft (running approximately 75 minutes, from the 55 in our Fringe version). Dr. James Bryant is tops in the field of forensic criminology. But when a single fluke step pushes him through a time tunnel to the year 1888, he finds himself at the murder scene of Jack the Ripper’s first victim. Gripped by the possibility of catching the original serial killer, Bryant works tirelessly to identify the unknown murderer before he can complete his gruesome agenda. Challenged by the two women in his life: a Whitechapel sex worker in 1888 and his brilliant, driven, transgender assistant in 2024, Bryant is forced to confront his own benevolently patriarchal tendencies, while racing against time to save the four remaining victims. Can he make the world safer by literally dwelling in the past? Only time will tell. Twelve-year-old Evie Beaulieu sinks to the bottom of a swimming pool in Montreal strapped to one of the world’s first aqualungs. Ina Aroita grows up on naval bases across the Pacific with art as her only home. Two polar opposites at an elite Chicago high school bond over a three-thousand-year-old board game; Rafi Young will get lost in literature, while Todd Keane’s work will lead to a startling AI breakthrough. They meet on the history-scarred island of Makatea in French Polynesia, whose deposits of phosphorus once helped to feed the world. Now the tiny atoll has been chosen for humanity’s next adventure: a plan to send floating, autonomous cities out onto the open sea. But first, the island’s residents must vote to greenlight the project or turn the seasteaders away. Set in the world’s largest ocean, this awe-filled book explores that last wild place we have yet to colonize in a still-unfolding oceanic game, and interweaves beautiful writing, rich characterization, profound themes of technology and the environment, and a deep exploration of our shared humanity in a way only Richard Powers can.
