Shine on Gimuy | Cairns
Oct 3–Oct 13, 2024 (UTC+10)ENDED
Cairns
Shine On Gimuy is an immersive Aboriginal light and multicultural arts festival showcasing the rich Aboriginal arts and culture of the Tropical North Queensland region. Held on the sparkling foreshore of tropical Gimuy (Cairns), the 2024 festival will bring the Esplanade and Salthouse Festival Centre to life from Thursday 3 October to Sunday 13 October.
Hosted by the Idingi Nation on their homeland, the festival is a celebration of all forms of Aboriginal storytelling, showcasing innovative arts and cultural practices, and inspiring insights into science and industry. Country and Indigenous peoples’ connection to Country is an integral part of our festival.
The 2024 theme is Intertwined. This year’s public art installations will be based on the inherent social ecology of being Indigenous, the spatial perception of Indigenous territory – philosophy, language – and cultural practices and nuances. All of which are socially accepted.
Shine’s program will highlight stories of intergenerational practice…who Indigenous people are and who our culture is, is all intertwined. We will celebrate conversations and ideas, visual art, music and dance!
