The AIG VICTOR Irish Open 2024 returns to the National Indoor Arena from the 13th-16th November 2024. The event is part of the Badminton Europe Elite Circuit and is at an International Challenge level. The finals will be broadcast live on TG4. This will be the first event since the Olympics for Nhat Nguyen and Rachael Darragh in Ireland. Last year fans witnessed an unbelievable match between Nhat Nguyen and Alex Lanier with Nhat winning his first Irish Open title. Halloween Camp 2024 Tuesday, October 29th - Friday, November 1st Normal day: 9.30- 3.30pm. Pre/Post Camp: For an additional cost you can enroll in our pre and post camp, parents can drop off children no earlier than 8.45am and pick up no later than 4.15pm. About Camp The camp is suitable for 4-12 year olds, and is then further subdivided into 4-6 year olds and 7-12 year olds in order to schedule age appropriate activities. We offer a range of activities for the children, from ball sports such as basketball, volleyball and football, to relay races and obstacle courses, daily arts and crafts sessions and of course a swimming* session everyday! *If a child requires help changing, a parent/guardian must be present to help - Changing rooms at 2:15 pm to change and 3:00 pm when leaving the pool. Swan Leisure Sports Camps operate its normal day 9.30- 3.30pm. Parents may drop off and pick up their children within 10 minutes of the start and finish of the camp. Parents are requested to be punctual as the Leisure Centre is not responsible for children outside camp times. He has won a number of prizes in international competitions, including the Special Award for interpretation in the Mauro Giuliani competition, Italy. Jimmy Smyth / Donal Kirk duo Navan native Jimmy Smyth once turned down an offer from Phil Lynott to join Thin Lizzy and was nominated for a Grammy in 1989. Jimmy has been playing guitar since he was 7 years old, initially with his father’s dance bands and later when his growing interest in rock and blues led him to form his own band at school. The first Jimmy Smyth band was formed when he was in his early teens, and opened for Thin Lizzy, Bees Make Honey, Horslips, and Frankie Miller. He was a guitarist/singer with The Bogey Boys from 1979 to 1983 and recorded several singles and two albums. He featured heavily in ‘Best Guitarist’ polls on Hot Press Magazine around this time, alongside guitarists like the Edge and Rory Gallagher. He is a Grammy-Nominee for his work with US Artist Toni Childs. The legendary guitarist has worked with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Van Morrison, Tony Childs, Roger Daltrey, Curtis Steigers, Chaka Khan, Lisa Stanfield, Gilbert O’ Sullivan, John Scofield and Jon Lord from Deep Purple with whom he played the 'Concerto for group and Orchestra' the year before he died! Donal Kirk is a seasoned musician with an extraordinary talent. Donal is a great vocalist and, while likened to the styling of Michael McDonald, this still does not do him justice. Donal started playing solo gigs over 30 years ago. He started a band called JC's Soul Search with ex members of Granny's Intentions, then went on to join Dublin blues band, The Business, leaving to form a band with Brian Downey - Thin Lizzy's drummer. Talk on the Salmagundi project with artist Jijo Sebastian Thursday 14 November 2024, 6.30pm Jijo Sebastian is a collaborative filmmaker with more than ten years of experience in participatory, collaborative and transcultural filmmaking in community-based contexts. He was awarded an Artist in the Community Scheme Project Realisation Award in 2015 and an Arts Council ‘Next Generation’ Bursary Award’ in 2016, in addition to an Arts Participation Bursary (2020). He has co-written, directed and edited eight short films and one tele-film collaborating with individuals, groups and families from the Keralite Indian community and others in Ireland. Selected films have been screened at international film festivals. His practice and films find coherence in their shared immigrant-oriented themes, participatory methodologies and suburban Dublin geographical context. The key concerns that underpin his practice and current thematics are transcultural space, intercultural relations, the complex nature of immigrant identity and its trajectory of transitioning. Since stuttering his way into comedy in 2010 he’s become a regular headliner in comedy clubs across Ireland. He is also a regular performer at every major Irish comedy festival including the Vodafone Comedy Festival, Longitude, Indiependance and The Cat Laughs as well being a regular tour support for some of Ireland’s top comedians. From 2016 to 2019 Aidan had consecutive sell out runs with his solo shows “(500) Days of Stammer”, “Stutter Island”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Stammer Man” and “Did I Stutter?”. These shows were subsequently performed to acclaim in Dublin, Galway, Albuquerque, and Montreal. Last year he returned to the Edinburgh Fringe for another sold-out run with his show “I Know What You Did Last Stammer”. Following this he performed the show at the Dublin Fringe festival. As well as a comedian Aidan is also an accomplished storyteller. In 2016 he was runner up in the Moth Grand Slam in Dublin. His story The Early Days of Stammer was featured on the Moth Radio Hour and was broadcast on over 400 radio stations globally, to a listenership of over 30 million. In 2017, he was invited to speak at National Stammering Awareness Day in Dublin about being a stuttering performer. Last year he hosted “The Stammies”: the British Stammering Associations first ever stammering awards. You can also see Aidan on the Try Channel, one of Ireland’s biggest YouTube Channels, which has over a million subscribers. Darren Gaffney Darren is a comedian hailing from County Cavan - unlike most Cavan men he can attest he no longer has his Communion money. Darren is making his way up through the Irish comedy scene having performed at most of the top clubs in the country. He has also performed in cities acoss the UK. You can find him gigging around the clubs in Dublin on a weekly basis, or in clubs all around the country. He attended Edinburgh Fringe 2024 where he headlined gigs for the first time. He started his own comedy club 'Bite The Bullet Comedy' in 2024, which has gone from strength to strength since the first show in back in May '24. The Safeguarding 3 - Designated Liaison Person (DLP) workshop is a crucial component of the Child Welfare & Protection Training Programme. Individuals appointed to the DLP role in a club must have completed the Safeguarding 1 Workshop and attend the NEW Designated Liaison Person 3-hour workshop. While it is permissible for one person to hold both the Club Children's Officer and DLP positions, separating these roles is recommended for best practice. The DLP is tasked with handling any child protection concerns within the organization and is responsible for reporting any suspicions or allegations of child abuse to the relevant authorities. The Designated Liaison Person should ideally be a senior figure within the club, but in cases where this is not feasible, the Club Children's Officer can assume the role provided the responsibilities are clearly defined. The adoption of the Sport Ireland Code by sports governing bodies and clubs has significantly enhanced the protection of young individuals and leaders. The upcoming Safeguarding 3 Online Workshop on the 18th of November 2024 will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Registered participants will receive the necessary course materials and access link via email a few days prior to the workshop. To ensure confidentiality, only registered attendees will be granted admission to the session. By signing up for this workshop, participants agree to share their name, email, and date of birth with Sport Ireland for certification purposes.

Join us for a conversation with Colin Barrett as he nears the end of his term as Writer-in-Residence at UCD – a year in which his debut novel Wild Houses was published and subsequently longlisted for the Booker Prize. The conversation will also feature Declan Meade, Publisher/Chief Executive of The Stinging Fly, which published several of Barrett’s early stories as well as his first collection Young Skins (2013). In conversation with Niamh Campbell (author of This Happy and We Were Young), we’ll hear about Barrett’s journey as a writer as well as Irish writing infrastructures, the novel and the short story, literary journals, literary prizes, and more. The conversation will begin at 2pm; a coffee reception will precede the event at 1:30. Celtic legend Rudi Vata will be in Dublin to launch his book on November 21st at 7 PM at the Academy Plaza Hotel, located just off O’Connell Street at the junction of O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street. This event, organised by Celtic supporters, aims to bring football fans in Ireland together to celebrate Rudi’s remarkable career. Attendance is free, and copies of Rudi’s book, Football, Freedom and Paradise, will be available for purchase. During the event, Rudi will be interviewed by his co-author Gerry McDade about his life and the inspiration behind his autobiography. Born in Albania in 1969, Rudi grew up under a repressive communist regime that stifled basic freedoms. He famously stated, You do not choose to be born under a dictatorship, but you choose whether to live under it. Devoted to football, he saw it as his path to freedom and self-determination. After representing his country in France in 1991, Rudi defected and sought political asylum, beginning a journey that would lead him around the globe, including a successful stint at Celtic FC. This is more than just a football story; it’s a powerful tale of a man who fought for his freedom and values it deeply.
