Who's the Boy with the Lovely Hair? Jakko M Jakszyk in conversation | INNSIDE Manchester

Who’s The Boy With The Lovely Hair? The Unlikely Memoir of Jakko M Jakszyk From reflecting on who he could have been after meeting his birth family and discovering their extreme beliefs to performing for 120,000 people in Rio de Janeiro… This is the unique and incredible life of a successful musician who went on a journey of self-discovery to find out who he really was and found out much more than he ever bargained for. From revelations set against the backdrop of Nazi Germany, a mother with a previously unknown successful singing career, to finding a white supremacist in your current family line – and everything in-between… Who’s The Boy With The Lovely Hair? is, at first glance, a traditional rock’n’roll memoir, charting Jakko’s long and varied musical career, packed with eyebrow-raising and hilarious anecdotes about his encounters with everyone from Michael Jackson, Kate Bush, Cliff Richard and Gene Simmons, to Uri Geller, Jack Charlton, Audrey Hepburn, the Dalai Lama and crossing swords with Millwall Football Club’s dodgy director Reg Burr. But step away from the tales from the trenches of late 20th and early 21st century rock’n’roll, theatre and alternative comedy, and you uncover: - The harrowing stories of his adoptive parents’ lives during World War II - Discovering his adoptive father had fought on both sides of that war - His birth mother’s fame as a successful singer in Ireland - Jakko finding and meeting his birth mother and self-proclaimed ‘white supremacist’ step-siblings - How a lonely, despondent adopted child ended up working and playing with his childhood heroes This is a book about origins, identity and who we become. It’s about a kid who found solace in music when the very sense of who he was left him floundering. It is about how his journey to discover his family allowed him to reflect on who he could have been had he not been given away at birth. Who’s The Boy With The Lovely Hair? is a tale about discovering, processing and making peace with who you are, and ultimately asking: “How much of us is nature and how much is nurture?” We have two ticket options available: * Event Only and *Event with Discounted Book Combo deal - books will be available for collection at the Festival. Our event will be followed by a dedicated signing event with Jakko. RRP books will also be available for purchase on the day. About the Author Apart from the odd diversion into acting and alternative comedy, Jakko Jakszyk has been a professional musician and composer since he was 17 years old. Alongside playing on hundreds of records as a session player, he has also written a number of award-nominated commissions for BBC Radio 3 and recognisable scores for TV and advertising. However, he is best known for being lead guitarist with the hugely popular jazz-fusion act Level 42 in the ’90’s and as lead singer and guitarist for the founding father of progressive rock, King Crimson, since 2013. He lives in Hertfordshire with two cats, two highly creative offspring and one purpose-built studio. Information Source: Louder Than Words Festival | eventbrite

Following on from his first successful publication Out and About with Linden (a queer archive of the north) Stuart Linden Rhodes has produced a new larger edition photobook of the queer 1990’s titled simply Linden Archives. This book presents a collection of photographs of Pride events, Mr Gay UK contests alongside Club and Bar images from London, Brighton to Newcastle and Manchester. The foreword is written by actor Russell Tovey. A photobook that seeks to encapsulate a peoples defiant in the face of the AIDS crises and discriminatory laws. Included in this work are many images that have fallen foul of Instagram's unjustly censorious and baffling algorithm — alongside uninhibited photographs of Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Derek Jarman, Take That, Julian Clary, Peter Tatchell, Paul O'Grady, East 17 and many more. 'Linden' was the roving reporter for APN and the Gay Times during the early to mid 1990s, his columns for those magazines were entitled: Out & About with Linden. Stuart Linden Rhodes was also a lecturer at a local further education college, the pseudonym 'Linden' adopted due to concerns generated by draconian Clause 28 legislation sanctioned by Tory governments of the era. At home in North Yorkshire during the 'rona lockdowns of 2020-21, Stuart established the Linden Archives online as a way to preserve his work and look back fondly on the brash, thriving gay scene of the 1990s. More recently, his photography has featured on BBC television & radio and in Mastermind Magazine, Crotch, The Guardian, You Otter Know and Photography – A Queer History. Imagery from the archives have been exhibited at the Grundy Art Gallery, Queer Britain, Moray Pride, Vane Gallery and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum as part of the Museum of Youth Culture. Are you ready for it? 🐍🖤 We are excited to announce new seating options will be coming to Tropical Liqueurs St. Louis. During this time, we are reevaluating our ticketing and seating arrangements for our shows. We kindly ask for your patience as we continue to learn and grow. Let us explain what community-style seating entails. When you purchase one or more seats, you will be assigned a table number and a seat number. Upon your arrival at the show, we will scan your ticket and escort you to your designated table. Once there, you can choose any seat at your assigned table to be your own. It is important to note that we request parties not to leave any empty seats between them, as our shows often sell out and each seat corresponds to a ticket. If you are the first to arrive in your group, you may hold seats around you to ensure that your group can sit together. However, please only hold the number of seats that your group has tickets for. If your group is split between multiple tables, please refrain from holding seats at a table to which you are not assigned. Regardingfood and drink, please be aware that they are not included in the ticket price. You can place your food and drink orders as soon as you arrive either at the bar or food window. We kindly ask for your patience with our staff, as we will be accommodating over 120 people into the venue simultaneously, making it nearly impossible to serve everyone all at once. Lastly, we encourage you to show appreciation to our staff by leaving a tip. They are like family to us, and we believe in taking care of family. If you have never been to a drag show, you may not be familiar with the tradition of tipping. In our world, tipping is a sign of respect and admiration towards the performers and their performances. So, if you see something you like, we encourage you to tip the performers. You may notice crew or cast members passing around a bucket or tray after a performance. Any tips collected by another performer or crew member for another performer will always reach the intended recipient. If you prefer to send a digital tip to the team, you can Venmo us @PrismaticEventsSTL. Please specify in the comments if your tip is intended for a specific performer. Feel free totake as many pictures and videos as you'd like during the show! We want you to document your experience and share it on social media. Just make sure you tag us! @PrismaticSTL -Performers may not be able to take a selfie with you during their performances, but they will be available for photos after the show. We have a professional photographer to capture moments throughout the day. The cast will take a moment to freshen up before joining you on stage for pictures, and our photographer will be there to capture those images. Once the photos are processed and everyone looks their best, they will be uploaded to our social media channels. While you are welcome to have someone take a picture with your camera, we believe the professional photographs will provide the best quality. You might be wondering why we charge for this show. We understand that there is a wealth of free entertainment options in the city, and we appreciate your decision to support us. The income from ticket sales goes towards fairly paying the performers, DJ, lighting tech, stage manager, show producer, ASL interpreters for select shows, decorations, costuming, props, advertising, and much more. We are a close-knit family running a production company, and any additional income beyond fair wages goes towards community outreach and future events that we choose to produce. If you are coming with a group, there's no need to worry. You can either have one person purchase all the tickets or email us at wesrankin@gmail.com, and we will assist you in coordinating the sale of tickets for your group. Thank you for your understanding and support as we test new experiences and open our fabulous fourth season! Information Source: Prismatic Events | eventbrite
