Self-Care for the Soul: Watercolor String Painting - IN-PERSON CLASS | The Edney
Sep 23, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Chattanooga
This practice can be used thousands of times with a different result each time. Kind of like snowflakes, no two images will ever look the same. We'll start off with a demonstration and then move into a short centering meditation, followed by art making, writing and a little bit of movement. We'll close by witnessing and sharing our work. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring an apron if you have one. This is not necessary, but india ink is permanent so you may want to protect your clothing. Also, feel free to bring an art journal or regular journal if you have one! Please note: No previous art experience is necessary. About the teacher: Cat Thomas, MAT is an Artist & Expressive Arts Facilitator based out of Chattanooga, TN. 15 years ago, Cat intuitively began using art and writing as a therapeutic tool in her personal life. Once she experienced the true potential art has to heal the mind, body & spirit, Cat enrolled in the Expressive Arts Florida Institute in Sarasota, FL. After taking a weekend long intensive there, she knew her purpose was not only to create her own art, but to increase individual and community health & wellness by using the arts as a tool for healing, personal growth & self-discovery. Since finishing her training in 2015, Cat has worked with 1000’s of people helping them connect with their creative selves so they may gain the therapeutic benefits of doing something creative. From working as an Artist in Residence at cancer center for close to 10 years to partnering with a local community to create a collaborative neighborhood street mural, Cat enjoys working with a variety of populations, and truly believes that when given the opportunity to create in a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental space people can transform their lives from the inside out. Please note: Cat is not a licensed or credentialed art therapist. For details about our refund and class cancellation policy, visit our FAQs.

Hocus Pocus Painting Party - IN-PERSON CLASS | The Edney
Sep 24, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Chattanooga
Get in the spirit with an evening inspired by this Halloween favorite – HOCUS POCUS. We will paint a Hocus Pocus featuring the witches we love to hate, the Sanderson Sisters. All levels welcome in this course. We'll also have some delicious Halloween snacks! This is a not-to-be-missed class this Fall season! PLEASE NOTE: All supplies are included. About the instructor: A southern girl with a creative heart, Katie Brobst is a Red Bank resident who loves to share her love of the arts with others. She is inspired by the nature and music of our region and is drawn to creating art sustainably. Specializing in acrylic painting, Katie brings to her classes not just the knowledge of how to paint, but also how to use art as a way of relaxing and therapy. Katie moved to Chattanooga 9 years ago on a whim and quickly found home in the Scenic City. Outside of painting, she also is a children’s book illustrator and graphic designer. When she is not creating art, she is often found somewhere outside kayaking, reading, or spending time with others. Round Weaving - IN-PERSON CLASS | Society of Work - Northshore
Sep 28, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Chattanooga
This class is beginner-friendly as well as something new for someone that has the basics of weaving. Participants will warp a standard embroidery hoop as a loom, and then fill it with weavy goodness. The weaving is left right on the “loom.” Supplies are provided, but you are welcome to bring special yarns or fabric strips of your own to add. About the teacher: Lisa Denney has been drawing and painting since the 8th grade. After ditching studies in biology, she earned a degree in art from the University of West Georgia, and that led to a career in rug and carpet design. She rented a studio in 2015 to get the rug design out of the house, and found a community and motivation to make art. She comes from a long line of women that enjoy crocheting and knitting and the awful craft of “plastic canvas.” She currently makes her home in Chattanooga with her man and her cat. For details about our refund and class cancellation policy, visit our FAQs: www.thechattery.org/faqs.
