Join us at Hat Works for an introduction to digital arts practice, led by FutureEverything's Jonathan McGrath, as part of the PROTO creative engagement programme for Stockport. In this session we'll explore the fascinating intersection between digital arts and arts & health practice, offering an exciting opportunity for arts and health creatives to discover new ways that digital tools can enhance, inspire and influence their work. Through a series of short presentations and insightful discussions, participants will dive deep into three key themes: What is Digital? Learn how the concept of ‘digital’ and how it can be a versatile and accessible creative tool for everyone. We will discuss ways that ‘digital’ impacts our lives already and ways that art reflects this. Tools to Make Art From free and low-cost tools to creative hacks, discover how to create art using everyday devices. We will explore how technology can work alongside other ‘analogue’ creative tools and the fun that can be had by mixing things up. Models of Self Publication Learn how to share and sell your artwork online without relying on traditional arts institutions. We will take a look at platforms for self-publishing and ways to reach new audiences, even those who might not typically engage with arts and culture. In this workshop you'll have the opportunity to unpack real-life project examples, exploring the possibilities, challenges, and benefits digital arts bring to arts and health. FutureEverything will bring sample projects, but we encourage you to bring your own examples to fuel deeper learning and collaboration. There will also be time for informal networking and the Hat Works cafe will be open from 18.00 for you to settle in with a drink and snack. Celebration
Wellington Heritage Festival is a volunteer-led, community-engaged heritage festival celebrating the people, places and stories of the region. Wellington City Archives Talks and Tours Our festival shows people areas of the city that they may not often visit or always have access to. One of the main features of this ‘behind the scenes’ event is a talk and tour of the Wellington City Archives, which houses records and memorabilia relating to Pōneke heritage. ‘Not So Straight’ Artists Walking Tour Wellington’s story is written by a range of communities, and more than most cities, many of our stories are co-created by the rainbow community. This walking tour, hosted by Walk Tours NZ, covers some of these stories, highlighting the artists who have shaped the city and the communities they are part of. Urbantics - Spy Themed Urban Adventure This event explores heritage in a different way. Urbantics runs a self-guided outdoor escape room tour around the city using the website as a guide. Get together with a group of friends and learn about heritage by solving puzzles and mysteries while exploring the area's landmarks. Artists' Path Walking Tour This walking tour brings art and history together, with the Curtain Call Company theatre group lending their talents to a walking tour of the city. The company play characters from Wellington's history, such as Katherine Mansfield, and read letters written to these characters at significant locations. Heritage Crafts & Antiques + Vintage Fair Seatoun This fair has a strong focus on community and craft. From embroidery talks to markets, the fair has plenty to offer, all held in a historic building. This event epitomises the diversity of our festivals.
