There is something truly magical about live music by the water’s edge. Whether it’s the fresh open air, the stillness of the river, or the ebb and flow of a musician’s melodies, we always find ourselves enchanted by the sights and sounds. This is the magic of Music by the River featuring the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. Proudly presented by Icon Water and Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, Music by the River is now in its ninth year. This signature event continues to attract music lovers from across the region. Join us for a very special program dedicated to DISCO's greatest hits featuring guest vocalist Mig Ayesa accompanied by conductor George Ellis. Held in Queen Elizabeth II Park on the banks of the Queanbeyan River, this is an event the whole family will enjoy. The event site will feel a little different this year, the entire site will be fenced and each person will need a ticket to be scanned upon entry. You will need to bring your ticket with you on the night - either printed or electronically. If you book a seat in the amphitheatre please bring a cushion to sit on, the seating will be allocated, and you will be escorted to your seat by an usher. Please note that due to the size of the stage, it may not face the amphitheatre directly. It may be tilted slightly, which may impact your front facing view. You will still enjoy a great view and an incredible night of music by the river. There will be signage throughout the site, indicating where to access toilets, food and walkways. The main path through the park will be closed for pedestrian access but will be open to disabled patrons. Catherine reached out to the community and asked them “If your fabric could speak, what story would it tell?” In this exhibition, focused on community engagement and inclusion, we celebrate our creative community through stories gathered over two years. 40 participants aged from 4 to 92 share sometimes quite ordinary fabrics and the extraordinary memories that linger in the fibres. Known for turning unexpected songs from bands like Slipknot, Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday through to Sleep Token, Bad Omens and Korn, into ‘stealth rock’ acoustic renditions, I take these typically heavy songs and strip them back to focus on the melody and lyrics. Usually, you’ll find me at badass weddings singing for couples who grew up on the emo, alt, and metal scenes saying I Do to the songs they hold close without upsetting their elder relatives. After many requests from people saying they’d love to see me live, whether they’re already married, wedding-free by choice, or just craving an intimate concert experience, I decided to hit the road for my first UK tour. LOST & FOUNDOften hidden away in the archives, oral history recordings offer eye-witness accounts of people and places in the past. We'll listen to some of this rich material - from collections held by the East Midlands Oral History Archive at the University of Leicester - as inspiration to creatively consider how memories connect us to places. All are welcome, whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out. This is an opportunity to explore the creative potential of our sound heritage, connect with other writers through a series of facilitated writing activities and share your work if you would like to. This workshop is led by Helen Foster as part of the British Library's Sharing Our Sounds initiative. Helen is currently artist in residence with the project, hosted by the University of Leicester Archives and Special Collections and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. She is a writer, researcher and therapeutic writing practitioner who writes fiction and experiments with poetry. Her latest co-authored publication, Arts For Health: Creative Writing, is out now with Emerald Press.
