Wyatt C Louis and FONTINE | The Broom Factory
Oct 2, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Kingston
Join us for a night with Wyatt C Louis and Fontine! Date: Wed Oct 02 2024 Time: 7:30 PM Location: The Broom Factory All Ages Come and enjoy the amazing performances by Wyatt C Louis and Fontine at this in-person event. Get ready for a night filled with great music and good vibes. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see these talented artists live! Wyatt C Louis Walking the line between genres like an easy path rather than a tightrope, carried by textural and ethereal songs lifted up by stunning vocals, Wyatt C. Louis’ debut album Chandler refers to simply their middle name. Louis (they/he), a Plains Cree singer-songwriter born and raised in parts of Treaty Six, now lives in Moh’kinstsís (Blackfoot name for Calgary) and lets that amalgamation of place shine through on these tracks, some of which came to life in the quiet and contemplative days of deep pandemic lockdown. Out via Royal Mountain Records on May 24th, Chandler is suffused with a soft comfort that glows with feelings of familiarity and ease. Recorded at singer-songwriter and producer Phenix Warren’s studio, Alta Sound, with Colin Carbonera on hand as a producer/engineer, and tracks featuring Wild Pink and City and Colour's Matt Kelly, Louis found levity through collaboration. A new experience, the result is upbeat yet cozy, the kind of songs that show off Louis’ contradictions of paying homage to the country music ingrained in the geography of their childhood, with an indie and roots spin that makes it something different. FONTINE “A hush sweeps across Turtle Island. Birds flock to perch on towering maples and the waving prairie grasses still. There is a name upon the tongue of every creature from the elk to the shrew. FONTINE. A gust of wind blows open the shutters of every home and young and old kneel in reverence to the dawn of a new era. FONTINE. Queen of the road, King of the song, FONTINE is here with a brand new EP. Co-produced with Kris Ulrich and mixed by Boy Golden, the Yarrow Lover EP was released in FEbruary 2023. Taking inspiration from her Nehiyaw Iskwew roots, the natural surroundings of her prairie home, and her musical surroundings in Winnipeg, the EP presents as a beautiful introduction to a powerhouse songwriter and vocalist.”

Papers, Poisons & Power: Schneemann’s Experiments with Eco-Feminist Media | Women's Studio Workshop
Oct 23, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Kingston
This reading and interactive talk by feminist art historian Katie Anania will trace several themes in eco-feminist art before 1970. To begin, Anania will explore how industrially produced paper is a tool and medium that connects the twentieth century with the present. By tracing some project prototypes from the Schneemann archive and in the Women’s Studio Workshop’s collection, a few questions will become possible: How has feminist art been instrumental in revealing the ways that different media forms participate in violent and toxic supply chains? What kinds of written, typed, and printed media tend to generate or consolidate historical narratives, and what leftovers and effluvia remain accessible only through time-based media or audio histories? And how might a feminist archival ethos help to recover and hold onto what is lost? Copies of Anania’s book will be available for purchase on site. A reception and book signing will follow.
