This talk is part of the '100 mlynedd o Glenys Cour | A 100 years of Glenys Cour' exhibition at Mission Gallery. As a curator, lecturer, exhibition organizer, interpreter, and mentor, Sally Moss will provide a unique perspective on Glenys' artistic processes and connections.
Born in Fishguard in 1924, Glenys Cour grew up in the mining communities of the Rhymney Valley. She studied under Ceri Richards at Cardiff Art School and later became a teacher in Swansea, where she met and married the sculptor Ron Cour. Both Glenys and Ron taught at Swansea School of Art, with Glenys specializing in stained-glass art. Throughout her career, Glenys made significant contributions to the art world in Wales through various organizations and exhibitions.
Now at the age of 100, Glenys continues to paint daily in her home studio, drawing inspiration from the ever-changing light and breathtaking views from her sea-front windows. Her work can be found in both private and public collections, and in 2020 she was honored with an MBE for her contributions to the visual arts in Wales.
Sally Moss, with her extensive background in Fine Art, Film Animation, and Education, has played a vital role in the cultural sector, including her work as the Exhibitions Officer/Acting Curator at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery & Museum and her involvement in the redevelopment of the National Wool Museum at Drefach Felindre. With her deep knowledge of Welsh textiles and art, she brings a wealth of expertise to the discussion.
