Meet the Tom Reynolds for an evening of trail runs, great adventures, and drinks at the brewery. Optional trail run 10km (departs 6:15pm sharp) Film only- arrive by 7:15 pm About the film A story about running, mental health & one person’s search for sanctuary in one of the harshest environments on earth. Caboose is set against the backdrop of an unsupported, unsanctioned 500km team relay running race across the Atacama Desert called The Speed Project. For Tom Reynolds – a self-confessed slow runner from Manchester, UK – it reflects a reckless desire for adventure following a tumultuous 12 months full of loss, grief and mental health struggles. Is entering an underground event based around speed, created by maverick race organizer Nils Arend, the perfect next step towards healing and recovery? You’re probably here because you either love drawing or you love dogs, and if that’s the case, then this might just be the perfect event for you. Welcome to Dog Life Drawing classes with artist Cai Burton at KitForm, Jamaica Street Studios. Join this art class with a difference and get to know your fluffy models with a tail who just love scratches, pets and treats. Each class will feature multiple dogs of all shapes and sizes - expect snorting flat faces, long legs, tight curls and waggy tails. Try to keep up with the dogs movements and capture a variety of sketches, or spend longer on timed exercises led by artist Cai Burton. Classes are fun and relaxed with the opportunity to move around and see different dogs. Get to know the owners and play with the pups during the break. Share your work afterwards and see how other artists of all skill levels capture these furry friends. Cai will guide you through the session, introducing you to the class with structured warm ups and moving you around the space. Despite this, classes are still relaxed with the opportunity to move around as you see fit. Drinks will be available from the bar and chilled music will help set the tone. On the dayPlease arrive 10-15 minutes early to get checked in and settled. Limited on-street parking is available. The nearest car parks are Cabot Circus or The Galleries (15min walk) Please bring your own art supplies. Limited equipment is available to borrow including A3 paper & boards, pens and pencils. Please check with the owner before interacting with the dogs. Their welfare is important, so anyone acting inappropriately will be removed. There will be a 15-20 minute break halfway. A Whole Day of Life Drawing!Life drawing season is back! To celebrate, Posed x Lovely Life Drawing are inviting you to join our extended four-hour session that's sure to add a stroke of creativity to your day. Our session will be from 1pm to 5pm at the stunning Hours Space located in the heart of Bristol. This is a small intimate space, allowing everyone to confidently dive into their art. There will also be a carefully curated playlist, free glasses of wine, sparkling cordial, and, of course, a space to let your inner artist run wild. Your favorite life drawing gals have collaborated to plan an exciting day for you - we'll be bringing you THREE sessions in one day! First, Beth will guide you through a tutored session, as you focus on some life drawing basics, whilst encouraging you to staying true to your own creative style. Next, Sammi will invite you into a world inspired by Studio Ghibli where you can draw an array of poses inspired by some of your favorite magical characters. Expect wild poses and ltos of props! Hannah Kendall Vera Anna Meredith Honeyed Words Carmen Ho The Way I See Steve Reich Different Trains Bristol Ensemble performs an intriguing programme of contemporary works in the unique setting of Bristol 1904 Arts Club. Steve Reich’s earlier work had frequently used tape, looped and played back at different speeds. However, Different Trains was a novel experiment, using recorded speech as a source for melodies. The recorded speech that forms the basis for Different Trains is taken from interviews with people in the United States and Europe about the years leading up to, during, and immediately after World War II. We also feature three leading UK female composers - Hannah Kendall, Anna Meredith and Carmen Ho - all with distinctive styles and unique voices. Tickets £20. Seating is unreserved. Each year Spike Island offers fellowships to promising artists based in Bristol. Artists are selected from an open call and offered studio space at Spike Island, access to our facilities, support from our programme team and free membership to Spike Island Associates for the year. This opportunity aims to support and encourage artists in Bristol as they develop their professional practices. We are excited to introduce our Graduate Fellows for 2024–25: Alice Farrington (UWE Bristol), Amy Coaten (UWE Bristol), Hannah Hornby (UWE Bristol) and Libby Bove (Bath Spa University). They are joined by the 2024–25 Dreamtime Fellow, Alexis Over Papatzaneteas. The Dreamtime Fellowship is a programme funded and supported by established Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram. This event sees our new Fellows introduce themselves and their practices, alongside our outgoing Graduate Fellows 2023–24: Lolly Deazley (UWE Bristol), Harry Judge (UWE Bristol), Max Silliton (UWE Bristol) and Lola Bennett (Bath Spa University), as well as Lou Baker, the 2023–24 Dreamtime Fellow. They share the work they have produced during their Fellowship at Spike Island as well as their aspirations for the future.
