Supper at Headlands | July 2025 | Headlands Center For the Arts

Jul 30, 2025 (UTC-7)
Sausalito
Cultural Experiences
Will you join us for supper? Suppers at Headlands offer a chance to experience an evening at Headlands through the lens of Artists. Gather in our historic, artist-renovated Mess Hall and share a seasonal family-style meal prepared by Headlands’ Chef, Damon Little. Your seat at the table helps sustain our mission of supporting artists and creative exchange. Bring a friend, make more, and be a part of our growing community. Join us on Wednesday, July 30, at Headlands Center for the Arts for Embrace —an activation ceremony for our 2025 Wall Space commission by poet Forrest Gander . The evening begins at 6:00PM with drinks in our Mess Hall, followed by a family-style supper at 6:30PM. Around 7:40PM, we'll gather outdoors in The Commons, where Forrest Gander will be joined by composer and cellist Theresa Wong (AIR ‘09) and multi-disciplinary artist Ashwini Bhat to present Embrace , a collaborative performance during the activation ceremony of the Wall Space commission. Program 6PM – Event starts 6:30PM –  Welcome remarks 6:40PM – Dinner served 7:40PM – Wall Space Activation Ceremony 8PM –  Event concludes Reading from his book “Twice Alive”, Forrest Gander addresses the exigencies of our historical moment and the intimacies, personal and environmental, that bind us to others and to the world. Theresa Wong creates music that is otherworldly, often radical and experimental, seductive and sensual, exploring connections to the primal sentience of the natural world. In response to Gander’s words and Wong’s improvisation, Ashwini Bhat choreographs an immersive ritual using clay, dirt, wildflower seeds, and the repetitive movement of her hands as they shape bead-like seed-balls, grounding the performance. Guests will be invited to take a seed-ball with them to plant and germinate in their gardens. About Wall Space Created by Rotterdam-based designer Chris Kabel, Wall Space is a sculptural installation that turns Headlands’ building façade into a canvas for commissioned texts. Inspired by historical movie theater marquees, a hidden armature on the side of the building holds metal mesh letters that respond to the changing light, visible to viewers as cast shadows. The letters are reconfigured into a new poem once a year. Maximum 4 tickets per order. Interested in our Members Ticket price? Visit our Give page to join, or contact Kristina Graber to learn more at kgraber@headlands.org. Dinner will take place in The Mess Hall, on the first floor of Building 944, and is accessible to people with mobility aids. Artist program may take place on upper floors accessible only by stairs. This exhibition invites you to explore the dynamic intersection of Fine Crafts and Fine Art, where tradition meets innovation and boundaries dissolve. Once seen as distinct disciplines, these two realms now intertwine, challenging conventional definitions and offering fresh perspectives on artistic expression. Fine Crafts celebrate the mastery of materials, transforming everyday objects into works of art. These pieces reflect teh xceptional craftsmanship and technical precision of each piece creating a seamless fusion of form and function with a deep connection to materiality and tradition. Fine Art prioritizes conceptual depth and aesthetic exploration over practicality, emphasizing emotional and intellectual resonance. Abstract ideas and thematic exploration with unrestricted creative freedom is sought. In today’s evolving art world, the lines between Fine Crafts and Fine Art are increasingly fluid.
