Animism is defined as the attribution of a living soul to plants, inanimate objects and natural phenomena . Lying at the heart of folk-practice and indigenous wisdom, we will call on this process through writing prompts and discussion to blur the boundaries between the human and the natural world, so we can explore reciprocity, connection and belonging in our natural environment and help us understand a bit more about what it means to be human existing in and with a living, breathing ecosystem of aliveness. A sketch, by its very nature is a rapidly executed freehand drawing done to record scenery or demonstrate ideas. Sketches can be made in any drawing medium, and is an essential practice for artists, in planning and developing concepts or improving visual skills as a student. Sketches represent the essence of drawing: full of life and rhythm. Walk & Sketch takes you on a journey around the beautiful local scenery, to discover or re-discover places, while connecting you physically to the landscape, through the rhythm of your walk and your drawings. By taking the time to stop and look around, to trace lines on a paper while breathing fresh air, you will experience a unique connection to the place, and a sense of well-being. No need for previous artistic knowledge, Sarah will guide you through the first steps. Suitable for ages 18+ years ONLY. Sessions will last approximately 90-120 minutes, depending on weather. WHERE TO MEET: Meet outside Portrush Town Hall on Mark Street. WHAT TO WEAR: Walk & Sketch takes place in around accessible walking area so you can wear basic walking shoes, or trainers. Make sure to bring waterproof and warm clothing, as we will spend one to two hours outside. WHAT TO BRING: a small backpack with water and snacks, and your art material (sketchpad, pencils, sharpener, rubber are the essential or/ and any other medium you would like to use, such as ink, charcoal, markers, watercolour, colour pencils…). We are delighted to have Award-winning Eric Lalor as our February headliner, one of the most sought after comedians in the country! Having started way back on Des Bishop’s Joy in the Hood, Eric has gone on to forge a successful career in comedy over the past 15 years, appearing at all the major comedy festivals and headlining venues up and down the country. Some people will recognise him as the villain from RTE's Fair City, the gangster, Cathal Spillane. Indeed Eric has a number of acting credits. He has won Irish comedian of the year twice as voted by the readers of entertainment.ie, and now his new podcast, You Must Be Jokin, which he co-hosts with fellow Ballymunner, Willa White, has won Best Podcast at the Digital Media Awards. Having recently stormed his new show, Lol’er By Nature at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin, Eric is at the top of his game and one of the most reliable comedy acts in the country.
