KS2 New Age Kurling (Participation) - Inspire competition is an event designed to support the individual development and character of participants in the sport. It offers a great opportunity for pupils in Year 3, 4, 5, or 6 who may not enjoy other team sports. This event takes place on March 13, 2024, at Co-op Academy Bebington in Bebington, CH63 2PS. The game is played on a badminton court, with stones being rolled towards a target circle. Tactics can be employed, such as blocking an opponent's path or strategically hitting their stone. Points are awarded based on the number of consecutive stones a team can roll closest to the target. The team with the most accumulative points at the end of the game emerges as the winner. It's important to note that pupils participating in the Boccia competition will not be able to take part in this New Age Kurling event. Additionally, each school is responsible for its own first aid provision and should have access to medical and emergency contact details. Best of all, admission to this event is free, so make sure to mark your calendars and join us for a day of inspiring competition!
KS2 New Age Kurling (SEND) - Inspire competition | Co-op Academy Bebington
Mar 13, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bebington
The KS2 New Age Kurling (SEND) - Inspire competition is an event that aims to inspire competition and support individual development and character in the sport. This event requires all participants to be on the SEND register and should be from Year 3, 4, 5 or 6. The squad size for each team should be 5, with a team size of 4. It's important to note that pupils participating in the Boccia competition will not be able to take part in the New Age Kurling event.
During the competition, the game is played down the length of a badminton court, with the target circle placed on the junction of the centre line and doubles service line. Stones are rolled alternatively towards the target, starting from behind the first line of the badminton court. Participants must have a part of their body behind the line when rolling. The objective of the game is to get as many of your team's stones as close to the target as possible. Tactics can be used, such as blocking an opponent's path or hitting an opponent's stone to improve your own position.
There are specific rules to follow, such as removing stones that fail to reach the service line or hit the back wall immediately. Scoring is calculated based on the number of consecutive stones a team can roll closest to the target at the end of each round. Only one team scores points each end, and the team with the most cumulative points at the end of the final round wins the game. The number of ends per game will be determined by the organizer based on time restraints and the number of teams participating.
Please note that individual schools are responsible for their own first aid provision and should ensure they have access to medical and emergency contact details.
KS2 Boccia (SEND) - Inspire competition | Co-op Academy Bebington
Mar 13, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bebington
The KS2 Boccia (SEND) - Inspire competition is an event aimed at promoting individual growth in the sport and fostering character development. Participants must be on the SEND register and should be in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6. The maximum squad size is 4, while the team size is 3. It is important to note that pupils taking part in this event will not be able to participate in the New Age Kurling Competition, which will be held alongside the Boccia event.
In Boccia, teams aim to position their balls as close to the target ball (jack) as possible. The referee tosses a coin to determine which team goes in which boxes, with the winning team using red balls or blue balls depending on the box. Each player has a maximum of two balls, and all players must be seated. The first player throws the white Jack, ensuring it lands inside the court and over the 'V' shaped line. An assistive device, such as a ramp, may be used if needed.
The game continues with players taking turns to propel their balls. If a ball is closer to the target ball than the opposition ball, the turn passes to the next player. If the ball is further away, the player continues to play their second ball. The turn then passes to the next player in the opposing team or the same team, depending on the distance between the balls.
The score is counted after all balls have been played. Each team receives one point for each ball situated nearer to the white jack than the closest opposing team balls. If two or more balls of different colors are at the same distance from the target ball, each team is awarded one point. Any ball out of the court is considered a 'dead ball' and is out of play.
Please note that schools are responsible for their own first aid provision and should ensure they have access to medical and emergency contact details.

KS2 Boccia (Participation) - Inspire competition | Co-op Academy Bebington
Mar 13, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bebington
Join the KS2 Boccia (Participation) - Inspire competition and experience the thrill of competitive sports. This event aims to inspire individual development and build character. The squad size is limited to a maximum of 4, while the team size should consist of 3 players. Open to pupils in Year 3, 4, 5, or 6, this event offers a fantastic opportunity for those who may not enjoy traditional team sports. Please note that participating in the Boccia event will preclude pupils from taking part in the New Age Kurling Competition, which will run concurrently.
In Boccia, each team strives to position their balls as close as possible to the target ball (jack), similar to the game of bowls. The referee determines the team placement through a coin toss, with the winning team occupying boxes 1, 3, 5 using red balls, or boxes 2, 4, 6 using blue balls. Players take turns throwing, rolling, or kicking the white Jack from box 1, ensuring it lands within the court and over the 'V' shaped line. Assistive devices, such as ramps, can be used if necessary.
The player then proceeds to throw their red ball, aiming to get as close to the white jack as possible. The next player on the opposing team (blue team) follows suit, propelling their first ball. If the blue ball is closer to the target ball than the red ball, the turn passes to the next player from the red team. However, if the blue ball is further away, the player continues with their second ball. If the blue ball is closer to the target than the red ball, the second player from the red team takes their turn. Conversely, if the blue ball is still farther away, the turn passes to the second player from the blue team. The red team only plays again when a blue ball is situated closer to the target or when all the blue balls have been played.
After all balls have been played, the score is tallied. Each team receives one point for every ball situated nearer to the white jack than the closest opposing team ball. Additionally, if two or more balls from different teams are positioned at the same distance from the target ball, each team is awarded one point. Any ball that goes out of the court is considered a 'dead ball' and is out of play.
Please remember that schools are responsible for their own first aid provision and should ensure they have access to medical and emergency contact details. Get ready for an exhilarating competition at the Co-op Academy Bebington on March 13, 2024. Admission is free, so don't miss out on this opportunity to showcase your skills and sportsmanship.
