Stranger Collective presents: FIRELIGHT: WORDS ON FIRESunlight on water, a warm glow in a woodland glade. Sparks of inspiration, good food, conversation and connection. We're burning with excitement to announce that Firelight is FINALLY back this June, after a three-year hiatus gently smouldering in the shadows. And it's back blazing, with a brilliant line-up of speakers spanning film, literature, surf activism, podcasting and journalism, who'll be sharing insights, ideas and experience to explore how a word after a word after word is power (Margaret Atwood). Catch the ferry across the water from Falmouth to this summer's location at the beautiful Trefusis Estate, with a quick swim on Flushing beach before we wander up through the woods to gather around the flames. Come together or venture out on your own – Firelight is welcoming, relaxed, lo-fi and unplugged. About FirelightStranger Collective first lit the fire in 2016 and it's spread from there, roving around different locations across Cornwall including Spargo, Potager, Kudhva, Gweek Boatyard Café and the last one at Bream Cove/ Meudon Hotel, called At Last Light, in 2022. We’ll be welcoming four incredible speakers to share their insights, stories and inspirations around the flickering flames: SPEAKERSLiv Little Liv is a writer whose work spans journalism, books, audio, TV and curatorial projects. Her debut novel Rosewater was published in 2023 by Dialogue Books in the UK and John Legend’s imprint Get Lifted in the US. Liv’s first short film, BUMPED, was picked up and made by BBC film. It has had global screenings, including at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival, the Bilbao Surf Film Festival and the International Ocean Film Festival. Demi and Chris (otherwise known as Approaching Lines) have made a career as megaphones for the stories that matter. For the past two decades, they’ve given life to big ideas in print, on screen and in person. Their books on surfing and travel, documentaries about youth culture’s pioneers, and development of the London Surf Film Festival (now in its 14th year) put their passions front and centre, with impressive results. Jodie Matthews Jodie is a Cornish writer and poet, currently living in the north. Her first novel Meet Me at the Surface was shortlisted for the Bath Novel Awards 2021 and the Blue Pencil First Novel Awards 2021 before being published by 4th Estate in 2024 to rave reviews.
