Experience the wonders of art at the Walters Art Museum with our guided tours specially designed for PreK-12 students. Immerse your students in the vast Walters collection and foster meaningful discussions about art. Our in-person tours provide a unique opportunity to explore the museum's galleries, either with a knowledgeable docent leading the way or through a self-guided experience. To reserve a docent-led tour for your school group, simply complete the registration form provided. Our guided tours last for 75 minutes and are available on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., as well as on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. We require a minimum of ten students and can accommodate a maximum of 80. Please ensure that there is at least one chaperone per group of ten students. Our tours cover a variety of captivating themes, tailored to different grade levels. For example, our Ancient Cultures tour is recommended for grades 2-12 and delves into the art, mythologies, culture, and daily life of ancient civilizations. Students will have the opportunity to explore artifacts from Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Near East, Asia, and the Islamic World, as well as the art of the Ancient Americas. Another engaging tour, Telling Stories in Art, allows students from kindergarten to grade 12 to decode and interpret stories and themes expressed in artworks, analyzing narrative elements such as setting, character, and plot. For younger students in PreK-3, our Animals in Art tour explores how artists throughout centuries have depicted both real and imaginary animals and habitats in paintings and sculptures. This tour also introduces students to the elements of art, such as lines, shapes, colors, and textures. Our tours are free, but we welcome voluntary contributions of $7 per student to support our educational programs.
