Bookends & Beginnings is excited to announce the return of media artist, graphic novelist, and Northwestern professor Ozge Samanci for the launch of her latest book, Evil Eyes Sea. This feminist political mystery unfolds in Istanbul during the 1995 elections, following two financially strapped students who stumble upon a mysterious death during a scuba diving trip. Delving deeper into the case, they find themselves ensnared in a web of political corruption, religious influence, and potential foul play. Drawing from her own experiences in Istanbul, Samanci shares a compelling narrative that sheds light on the challenges faced by young women in a male-dominated society. Evil Eyes Sea offers a glimpse into a country where rigid political ideologies constrict personal freedoms, painting a vivid yet sobering portrait of a nation torn between beauty and brutality. The event will kick off at 6 p.m., preceded by the opening of The MiniBar at 5 p.m. Join us at 1620 Orrington Avenue, Evanston, IL 60201, on March 28, 2024, for this captivating in-store book launch.
