RED with Ryoma Kashiwagi Q&A | TecArt Northcote
Mar 17, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Vic
Get ready for an evening with TecArt and RED Digital Cinema! Join the renowned stills photographer Ryoma Kashaiwagi for an exclusive dive into the thrilling world of motorsport photography unlike you've seen anywhere else. Experience Ryoma's unique way of capturing stills using RED digital cinema cameras, enjoy food and drinks, and participate in an engaging Q&A session. Plus, be first to get hands-on with the brand new KOMODO-X Z Mount. This is an event you won’t want to miss! 🚀📸🏎️ With an instinctive understanding of racing and a skillset honed as a photojournalist, Ryoma Kashiwagi has mastered the art of motorsport photography. The Japanese artist specializes in photography of Formula 1 and the WEC: World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Heures du Mans, documenting the drivers, their mechanics and the machines with a signature style uniquely captured with RED cameras. He is currently the official photographer for the French Alpine Endurance Team treating his work as an artistic project rather than a conventional press and public relations shoot. “When I told people about my plans to shoot still photos of racing cars with RED, many were skeptical, but I always believed in the very cinematic idea of capturing photographic images with the DSMC,” he says. “When KOMODO was announced in 2019, my certainty was replaced with confidence. I am one of very few photographers who know that a RED Digital Cinema camera can produce high quality photographs even in one single frame.” Ryoma’s passion for motor racing began as a child in the 1980s at a time when many racers and rally drivers were still losing their lives on the track. “I was interested in the machines themselves, but I was most fascinated by the way these racers lived,” says Ryoma. “The way they try to achieve victory and glory while risking losing everything.” Motorsport competition today is far safer than it was, but the safety risks have not been eliminated. It is why Ryoma has made it his life’s work to document the humanity of those who choose this path. “They could leave this world a minute after I photograph them in the pit garage,” Ryoma says. “Behind their helmets, they are not necessarily thinking about death but I sometimes feel that there is a split second of hesitancy in their eyes. By documenting them in a very cinematic way and by releasing the shutter at the right time, I try to capture this fleeting human moment.” Ryoma bought a KOMODO 6K in October 2021. The following week he took it to an endurance race in Bahrain. “The results and the operation of the camera at that time were even better than I expected,” he says. “Since then, I’ve shot all races with RED KOMODO and used KOMODO-X for the first-time last year at the F1 Japanese GP.”

The Egyptian Book of the Dead | The Open Space
Mar 2, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Vic
Omnisutra returns to Open Space with another mesmerising sonic journey - this time transporting you to the mystical realms of ancient Egypt. Come join us for an auditory and spiritual odyssey through a musical rendition of the Book of the Dead, the ancient Egyptian collection of hymns, spells, and prayers designed to guide souls through the afterlife. Through music, we summon the energies of the gods, illuminating the path from mortality to eternity. The divine forces invoked include Ra, the primordial sun god, who journeys across the sky each day, battling darkness and renewing life; Osiris, the ruler of the underworld and deity of resurrection, who teaches the mysteries of rebirth; Isis, the goddess of magic and wisdom, whose voice carries the secrets of creation and healing; and Horus, the falcon-headed god of the sky, war, and kingship. Their stories echo through time, resonating within the soundscape of this ritualistic performance. The musical ensemble Omnisutra brings this ancient text to life through an alchemy of sonic elements. Composed of four visionary artists, Omnisutra blends voice, instrument and electronic textures creating an immersive, otherworldly atmosphere: • Gavin Shri Amneon – A mystic, vocalist and percussionist Gavin has invoked the gods of ancient civilisations in voice and music for over three decades, exploring in sound the mysteries of the soul. • Portia Tang – A trained vocalist, jazz singer and singing teacher, Portia’s ethereal chants summon the voices of the past, infusing each note with sacred resonance. • Will Thompson – An oud player who has worked with Gavin for many years, Will’s improvised runs on this ancient instrument bring the past of ancient Egypt to life. • Michael Green – On bass and soprano clarinet Michael evokes the sounds of the soul as it journeys through the afterlife paying obeisance to the Gods. This performance is more than a concert - it is a ritual, an offering, and a passageway into the mysteries of existence. Let the voices of the gods rise and the vibrations of eternity guide you through this sonic invocation. -= Tickets =- Tickets: $45 + booking fee ($55 at the door). * Limited Spaces - please book early to ensure your place. -= Location =- Held @ The Open Space 11 Acacia Pl, Abbotsford VIC 3067 Paid parking is available in the public car park at Acacia Place, and across Victoria Street in Victoria Gardens shopping complex. The Most Of It | The Butterfly Club
Mar 3, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED

A meteor, named “Meteor Ramona”, is set to destroy the world in ten hours. Two couple friends decide to gather for one final dinner party before the meteor’s impact. Carrie, our host, hopes to keep people from talking about Meteor Ramona. Their partner Jo hopes to help with this, despite her own hopes of tying the knot before impact. Abbey, one of the guests, hopes to have a calm dinner with those she cares about. Her boyfriend Steve meanwhile, hopes to let some things off his chest. Our couples hope to have a dinner to remember, and try not to let tensions further rise when Abbey’s younger brother Mike joins the party. Will everybody be able to accomplish their goals, or will an emotional explosion occur before the actual explosion? With such little time, our guests will try to make the most of it. FAQs What time should I get there? At least 30 minutes before the show. Our performances start bang on time and it takes a hot second to welcome you into the building. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? The Butterfly Club is a licensed venue. Accordingly, patrons under 18 are only allowed on premises in the company of a parent or legal guardian. What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? We strongly encourage using public transport. No. Our team have a record of all attendees updated in real time and will be able to let you in whether you bring a printed copy of your ticket or not. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Yes. It happens all the time. It's totally fine.

Morphology by Josh Dykgraaf Exhibition Opening | SOL GALLERY
Mar 5, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Vic
I’m excited to announce my next solo show, Morphology, 4-16 March 2025 at SOL Gallery in Fitzroy! The exhibition will feature a collection of large scale, hyper detailed photographic manipulation work, centred on wildlife and conservation issues - developed from images I've shot of various habitats and other source material, representing thousands of hours of work. Complimentary drinks supplied by Bloodmoon Wines, who are generously supporting my work. I’ve been plotting this show for about 12 months now, almost to the day. Originally I had intended it to be exclusively marine themed - after diving into the idea, I hit a wall, discovering that people just don’t engage with marine subjects in a way that they do with terrestrial animals. The physical distance between us and marine life creates an emotional distance that isn’t there in birds and terrestrial animals. We don’t witness the plight in the same way, and so corporations can get up to all kinds of ugly behaviour. I've found that people tend to care about these issues when they can connect with the animal. Projecting themselves onto, or into, the life of the animal. Morphology is the study of form - the size, shape and structure of an organism - and the relationships between forms - how one organism’s constituent parts interact with one another, or how an organism interacts with its surroundings. And so, morphological characteristics play a significant role in how we perceive, identify or classify an organism. I’ve been thinking a lot about how, in the middle of a global extinction event, do you get people invested in and engaging with wildlife and ecological issues in other ways? In the past I’ve made work that more unabashedly took aim at the audience’s heartstrings - wildlife on fire or disintegrating, as an expression of my own alarm and exasperation. These days though, when I watch people respond to the work and talk with them, I feel a recurring a sense of fatigue and resignation. There’s so much going on in the world now that many people are simply resigned or just don’t have the bandwidth to care. So I’ve been exploring other pathways to get the audience’s emotional investment, adding humor and character. Making the creature engage with the viewer, and hopefully allow the audience to find our own human characteristics in these animals. Morphology will feature a body of work centered around this theme, thousands of hours of work created over the last 12 months around this theme and new work currently being developed especially for this show. Come say hi! Drinks provided on the opening night, I will also be at the gallery over the two weekends that the show is running.

韩大狗《正态分布》单口喜剧专场全球巡演澳大利亚 - 墨尔本站 | Library at The Dock
Mar 7, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Vic

BMF 2025 RUBIX presents: Safari Zone Records | Rubix Warehouse
Mar 7–Mar 8, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Vic
Safari Zone Records is a collective of musicians, artists and event organisers unified by a single, simple vision: To create interesting and unique experiences. Founded in 2021, Safari Zone was developed by a group of friends worn-out by the ceaseless festival cycle and oversaturated dance music scene in Melbourne. They sought to create something a little different but also stayed true to the underlying ethos of electronic music: make people move.Four years later, the group have electrified and left their own imprint on the scene, running events at the Third Day, My Aeon, Lucky Coq and the Wolfhound while also throwing multiple outdoor raves, utilising unique pockets of urban space while respecting their surroundings and leaving no trace. Furthermore, they have produced techno, disco and house releases with closing act Rem Siman putting out tracks that have been played by Solomun, Eelke Kleijn and Pete Tong on BBC’s Radio 1 amongst others. At Rubix, Safari Zone will showcase their finest talent with their in-house DJs aiming to bring you a night of uncompromising electronic music. Lachlan Keys kicks the night off in an upbeat and playful direction, bringing his trademark electro house and disco to the dancefloor. Next up, Proponent Records’ Lost Memories take the stage with a powerful live electronic performance glued together by soulful vocals. Their distinctive style draws influence from breakbeat, house and four-to-the-floor techno and is not to be missed. Things then get a bit wavy as Cosmo Kreamer enters the fray, playing a classic Detroit and hypnotic style of techno that will leave you breathless. The raw and unfiltered soundscapes continue with Jack Pellegrino bringing his un-imitable blend of techno and IDM to center-stage, crafting a unique sonic experience that only he can curate. Resident chaos orchestrators Tranq and Dr Feel are next up, administering pure and unbridled hard techno and trance into your central nervous systems – be ready to sweat. Last and far from least, Rem Siman rounds out the night with his intricate melodic creations and groove-driven sound that will leave you feeling euphoric and ready to take on the world. Make sure to check us out on March 7 during Brunswick Music Festival as your last stop of the day! This event is FREE!!
