Fine Art
Course Description Moving water created excitement in an artwork. There is often a sharp contrast between the sparkling water and the surrounding rocks and foliage. This offers an opportunity to learn about conposition and focus. Over the four sessions, students will learn to transfer an image ontoa canvas; then build an oil work from an initial underpainting. The weekly lessons will allow opportunity for the oil paint to dry between sessions so that we can build two works over four weeks. In the course of the workshops students will work on two paintings. Please note: There is no guarantee that you will go home with a completed work(s) but you will leave with the skills and knowledge needed to complete the project at home. Waterfalls and Creeks in Oil with Catherine Ketton is a four week course, running every Friday Morning from 9:30am to 12:30pm. The dates are as follows: Class 1 - 1st November 2024 Class 2 – 8th November 2024 Class 3 – 15th November 2024 Class 4 – 22nd November 2024 Materials are not included in this workshop. The material list can be found here. If you are starting with no materials, you can expect to pay approximately $400 for the essentials list to set yourself up for this workshop. Please note that your paints, brushes and mediums will have plenty of life remaining after this workshop and you will be set up to continue your creative journey into the future. Murray's Art and Framing has a full selection of art supplies. You will get the opportunity to try a limited range in this workshop and will receive our loyalty programs 10% discount off art supplies (exclusions apply). Our generously spaced classroom allows for social distancing but please don't come if you are unwell. Don't want to pay for your ticket online? Give us a call on 07 4632 2727. If Eventbrite tickets have sold out - please add your name to the waitlist and we will contact you regarding availability. Final tickets to classes may be available in-store at Murray's Art & Framing, 485 Ruthven Street, Toowoomba.About the Tutor: Catherine KettonI have been painting in oil for over twenty years and teaching oil painting for ten. I love the flexibility of oils and delight in the many ways I can work with the medium - careful layering of transparent colour like the old masters or luscious thick impasto to create robust textures. Whether I use delicate brushwork, or vigorous palette knife marks, oil is both forgiving and challenging. So perhaps a characteristic of my work is that it can't be pinned down. I embrace my personality which wants to try everything - new styles, different techniques, yet another genre. I identify with the works of Vincent Van Gogh I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it. I love research in experimenting with something new. Whilst this eclectic approach is not always the best pathway for the artist, it is highly recommended for the art tutor. I have lots to offer beginning and emerging artists and I love to share my enthusiasm and skills. All artwork images provided by the artist. Copyright Catherine Ketton. MyArt Studio Booking & Cancellation Policy Location The entrance to the classroom is found at 16 Duggan Street, Toowoomba CBD. The classroom will be opened 15 minutes prior to commencement of the class. Tea and coffee facilities are provided, and students have access to the kitchenette and toilet facilities. Parking No parking facilities are provided. Street parking in the Toowoomba CBD is at your own expense. Council car parks with 3+ hour zones are available on Annand Street, Water Street, or Station Street. We advise always reading the parking signage for the day and time period you require to avoid fines. Classes with outdoor activities are attended at your own risk. Materials Materials are not included in the ticket price. Students are responsible for their own art materials unless otherwise stated. A materials list will be provided by Murray's Art and Framing listing each item that is required for the workshop. It is expected by the tutor that each student will arrive prepared with the required materials. If you have any questions about your materials list, please get in touch with the team at Murray’s Art & Framing. Fees Ticket prices ensure that we can provide professional art tutors. Each ticket covers the total duration of the event for one student to attend. Fees do not include art materials. Please book into a workshop at least one month prior to its commencement if possible. This will secure your spot in the class and allow us to confirm tutor bookings. If there are insufficient tickets booked, workshops may be cancelled. Cancellation of enrolment by you If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop up to one month before its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee. The remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will be refunded. MIGRATION AND MATRIARCHS | Peter Polites and Winnie Dunn in conversation// Saturday 2 November // 3:30pm - 4:30pm // Venue: The Carrington Hotel // Part of the 2024 Blue Mountains Writers' Festival “I will tell you why you should draft my story. Because migrant stories are broken,” writes Peter Polites, channelling his mother, in his stunning third novel, God Forgets About the Poor, set between Western Sydney and the Greek peasant village where she was born. Meanwhile, the protagonist in Winnie Dunn’s debut, Dirt Poor Islanders, lost her mother at a young age, and finding her way means pushing against the constraints of tradition, family and self until she becomes whole in her own right. Greece and Tonga may be oceans apart, but these authors share an incredible skill for writing about class, migration, identity and familial bonds in heartfelt, humourous and elegant prose. Peter Polites is the author of two queer noirs, Down the Hume and The Pillars, the latter of which won the 2020 NSW Premier's Multicultural Literary Award. He also won the 2020 Woollahra Digital Literature Prize for Fiction.
