Discussion & Book Signing with Christophe Lebold | Spadina Theatre

Nov 1, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Toronto
Arts
The French author Christophe Lebold will be coming to Canada for a promotional tour of his book recently translated to English Leonard Cohen: The Man Who Saw the Angels Fall published by ECW Press in 2024 (Leonard Cohen, l’homme qui voyait tomber les anges, Camion Blanc, 2013). The conversation will take place in English, with Michael Posner, a Canadian journalist renowned for his books on Leonard Cohen. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Christophe Lebold's book will be available for sale (in English and French) during the book signing. About the book : Leonard Cohen: The Man Who Saw Angels Fall “Leonard Cohen has aimed high: to be all Jewish heroes at once. Like Jacob, he struggled with angels. Like David, he sang psalms and seduced women. But he never ceased doing what he did best: going from city to city and reviving our hearts. Leonard Cohen: The Man Who Saw the Angels Fall follows the singer’s cosmopolitan life from Montreal and New York to the Greek island of Hydra and examines his perpetual dialogues with himself, God, and avalanches. We see how six decades of radiant pessimism and a few thousand nights in hotel rooms transformed a young Jewish poet who longed to be a saint into an existentialist troubadour in love with women and a gravelly-voiced crooner who taught a thousand ways of dissolving into love. After more than two decades of research and travels, Christophe Lebold, who befriended the poet and spent time with him in Los Angeles, delivers a stimulating analysis of Cohen’s life and art. Gracefully blending biography and essay, he interrogates the mission Cohen set out for himself: to show us that darkness is just the flip side of light”. The translation of this book as well as the tour of the author is supported by the Embassy of France in Canada. The Man Who Saw the Angels Fall (ECW Press, 2024).

Light refreshments will be served and following the Architecture Tour you will have the opportunity to explore the many exhibitions on your own time. The tour will focus on the inspiration behind the architectural features of the building, designed by Fumihiko Maki, and particularly how the element of light is represented throughout the Museum. About The Parent Child Mother Goose Program: This wonderful organisation offers free programming to parents and their infants fostering early connection and bonding through rhyme, story and song.
