During the vegetarian festival, participants wear white clothes, yellow headbands, and carry various artifacts and props along the main streets of Phuket. Participants perform various performances such as piercing their faces and bodies with swords, performing fire burning and stomping, and other incredible rituals. The festival begins in the evening of Wednesday, October 2, when all participating shrines raise the "lantern pole". The Emperor God is said to descend from the pole to the shrine at midnight.
