It's About Time
by Sallie Portnoy
Opening : Saturday, April 26, 3-6pm
To be opened by Stephen Coburn Time shapes much of our existence—time to go, time to stop, keeping time, saving time, wasting time, and filling the moments between our first and last breaths. We search and sift through the sands of life, seeking meaning and purpose. My work explores a range of themes, including the relationship between nature and human-made environments, the resilience and fragility of materials, and the intersection of traditional craft techniques with contemporary artistic expression. The pieces often engage in a dialogue with the natural world, incorporating organic forms, textures, and colours that reflect my surroundings. I also examine the cultural narratives embedded in materials, using art to challenge perceptions and provoke discussions on sustainability and the role of art in society. This exhibition’s small room presents an intimate and personal menagerie of mixed-media works, incorporating wood, clay, bronze, iron, aluminium, glass, and found objects. I have experimented with an array of casting technics creating each casting individually by hand, choosing materials that best express the story being told. The time has come, the Walrus said, To talk of many things: Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax— Of cabbages—and kings— And why the sea is boiling hot— And whether pigs have wings. (Lewis Carroll) In the adjacent gallery, my well-known glass cast sculptures are on display. Each piece offers its own perspective on the concept of time. Time is a moving image of eternity (Plato) *Row Row Row Your Boat' cast aluminium & mixed media 19 x 9 x 9cm Biography Summary Portnoy studied ceramics at University of Manitoba and NSCAD, Halifax, Canada and graduate from COFA (BA ceramics} and SCA, Sydney University (MSA glass). Christine Webb is interested in the play of colour, light passages, perspective, and internal and external spaces. Her vibrant paintings are expertly composed and direct the viewer’s eye to multiple points of interest within the canvas. I am delighted to present my 12th Solo Exhibition with Art2 Muse. I read my paintings like a diary of memories, current thoughts and wanderings. In the current climate an overwhelming desire for peace, a welcome retreat into my studio haven to create and insulate from external chaos. I collate a collection of photos as a record or note of the fleeting thought. I have immersed myself in the balanced Japanese compositional techniques of Notan, the serenity of woodblock printing and the influence these techniques have had on Australian artists Margaret Preston and Cressida Campbell. A. Celebratory trip to Seoul to seek the highly coloured and stimulating contemporary art, enabled me to pull all these disparate influences into my paintings and make them my own, a mix of abstraction and reality.

Time Out
by Dan Kezelman The Australian landscape offers more than just a view—it provides a profound escape, a sanctuary where time seems to slow, and the noise of the outside world fades into the natural rhythm of the land. In Time Out, Dan Kezelman invites us to step away from the fast-paced demands of modern life and immerse ourselves in the quiet, timeless beauty of Australia’s diverse terrain. Through this collection, Kezelman delves deeply into the textures, light, and colours that define the vastness of the Australian environment. From the rugged beauty of the outback, with its vast open spaces and dramatic landscapes, to the serene, sun-kissed coastlines where the sea meets the sky, each piece captures a unique aspect of the land’s ability to inspire both awe and intimacy. The work is a celebration of the connection between land and soul, an exploration of how nature, in all its forms, offers a space for reflection and rejuvenation. Each artwork is not just a representation of the Australian landscape but a meditation on the land’s ability to ground us. These small moments, often fleeting in real life, are frozen in time through his work, offering viewers a chance to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the earth beneath their feet. Time Out it’s an invitation to reclaim the time and space to slow down and truly appreciate the natural world around us. In a world that constantly urges us to move faster, to do more, Kezelman’s work offers a necessary breath—a space to unwind, reconnect, and find a sense of peace. This collection speaks to the restorative power of nature, encouraging viewers to take a step back from the hustle of daily life and find a moment of stillness. Whether through the rugged lines of the outback or the gentle waves of the coastline, Time Out invites us to pause, reflect, and rediscover a sense of balance in the natural world.
