Collection Exhibition "The Age of Still Life" | Ichinomiya City Migishi Setsuko Memorial Art Museum
Nov 30, 2024–Mar 16, 2025 (UTC+9)ENDED
Ichinomiya
This collection exhibition, "The Age of Still Life," will feature a variety of still lifes that Setsuko Migishi painted with a refined sense of form, combining familiar motifs such as her favorite vases and flower vases.
When she was young, her first independent exhibition, "Flowers and Fruits," was selected for the exhibition, and was painted with a dynamic touch, with a Fauvism-like expression. In addition, her "Still Life," which depicts fruits and small items on a table, is inspired by the styles of French painters Bonnard and Matisse, and has sparkling colors. Later, in the 1950s, her still lifes, which depicted vases and flowers with a unique composition based on brown tones, were highly praised in the art world. In addition, please enjoy the various still lifes that are unfolding, such as works with motifs of clay figures and old vases that are filled with her thoughts about the ancient world, the fresh "Ode to the Sun (The Mountains Are Not Crimson)," which she created after moving to an atelier overlooking the sea in Oiso, Kanagawa Prefecture, and incorporating the sunlight, and the large-scale vases that she created in her final years after living in Europe for over 20 years.
