Latest Events in Morioka(January Updated)

The main event is a massive parade of more than 3,000 drummers, representing taiko groups created by schools, companies, organizations, and the 20 or so taiko groups that call Morioka home. The number of so many drummers playing simultaneously is a world record. The ranks of performers are separated only by the occasional parade float or banner introducing what's next. At one point during the festival, a float will come with an instructor encouraging everyone to take to the streets and dance together. Otherwise, a large circle dance after the parade is the tradition of Sanmai. Special performances, lessons, and related events are held in front of JR Morioka Station and at community halls around town during the four-day festival. Japanese and English event schedules and volunteer staff are on hand to help.

The annual summer feast in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture brings together fireworks masters from all over Japan. You can see their competition performances. About 10,000 fireworks bloom over the Kitakami River, which is extremely beautiful.

This fireworks display, first held in 2020, aims to bring a touching surprise to Morioka, with the concept of "a touching day forever engraved in the hearts of children." The fourth edition will be held in 2025, and the scale and influence of the display continue to grow. As a unique "experiential" fireworks display, the attraction lies in the diverse activities held within the venue, including the Sansa dance, and immersive fireworks displays. Brilliant fireworks, meticulously crafted by award-winning pyrotechnicians, will illuminate the Morioka night sky. Enjoy the unique musical fireworks at Morioka Donpa, created in collaboration with Omagari Fireworks. In addition, enjoy various activities and food stalls during the daytime before the fireworks begin. After the fireworks begin, the balloon lanterns create a dreamy atmosphere that is sure to leave an unforgettable impression.

From July to November 2025, YOASOBI will start its first domestic tour with 40 performances in 14 counties across the country. This is the first Hall tour in the country for YOASOBI.
