Cultural Experiences
Mum of two, Jenny Gill was with diagnosed with Signet Cell Cancer in March 2024, which is also known as signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC). It's a rare, aggressive cancer that can develop in many organs. She was given less than a year to live. In true Jenny style, she was determined to fight and make the most of her time with us all. So, a year after her diagnosis, with the help of chemotherapy, the love of friends and family and the need of what she calls 'the fire in her belly', Jenny set off on a particular mission. To raise awareness of this awful cancer, that often goes undiagnosed and undetected. To support the organisations working tirelessly with people who are diagnosed. And to inject this work with hope, joy and fun. Jenny gracefully and peacefully died in April 2025, part way through planning for her Auction. Help us make her wishes come true as we set out to raise vital funds and celebrate the amazing woman that Jenny was. Funds raised on the night will be split between St Julia's Hospice and The Treliske Research Team. The funding at Treliske will be specific for reasearch on stomach cancer. Join us for a unique twist on a traditional auction, where our dynamic duo of auctioneers will keep you entertained all night long! Dress to impress- whether it’s a classic cocktail dress, or that fabulously funky ’70s ruffled shirt you just can’t part with. But if new threads are more your style, you’re just as welcome! Bring your friends, your best moves, and your bidding spirit—let’s make this a night to remember! This heartfelt cause began with Jenny’s journey following her diagnosis in 2024. Thanks to the unwavering support of an incredible medical team, family, and friends, she never had to face it alone. Now, you have the chance to make a difference too. See all the items you can bid on and more at the website here >> https://www.jennysfund.co.uk/ If you can't make the event but would still like to donate please go to the Just Giving Page here >> https://www.justgiving.com/page/jennys-fund?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL Information Source: Jenny's Fund | eventbrite

PAUL ARMFIELD : Having spent the past 30 years balancing a career in bookselling with his sideline as a singer songwriter, Paul Armfield has finally reconciled the two worlds in an album of songs about books and reading. With his intimate baritone and warm stage presence, his renditions of these literate, witty songs, accompanied only by his guitar and musical saw will leave you completely charmed. About the album ‘Between The Covers – 9 Songs For Bibliophiles’ When veteran bookseller Paul sat down in early 2024 to start writing songs for what would be his 9th release, the first two songs that stumbled out were both about books, something he had not intended, but he went with the flow and wrote three more on the same subject. He said ‘It was surprisingly cathartic, having spent nearly 30 years balancing a career in bookselling with a double life in music, it felt like finally my two worlds were being reconciled.’ Invited by his friend and producer Max Braun to spend 4 days recording with a small ensemble of accomplished jazzmen at the same studio in Stuttgart that produced 2020’s ‘Domestic’, Paul set off to record the five songs along with a selection of other people’s songs about books, the result is an album of 9 very individual songs, Paul’s originals being sandwiched between 4 cover versions, hence the punny title, ‘Between The Covers’. . ‘I love Domestic so much – sensitive, melodic, heartfelt, gentle, well-observed, beautifully sung’ Mark Radcliffe ‘A buried treasure…heir to deathless troubadours such as Tim Hardin’ Gavin Martin in The Mirror ‘Everything about Up Here is exceptional. Breathtaking’ Simon Holland on Folk Radio ‘I love ‘YOU’! Best song I have heard in ages’ Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey ‘Gorgeous..beautiful, positive and amazing. Ace!’ Lauren Laverne BBC 6 Music ‘Exquisite, extraordinary, almost unbearably beautiful’ James McNair in Mojo ‘Spooky, affecting folkish singer-songwriterliness’ Time Out ‘An incredible collection of songs’ iD magazine ’Distinctively amazing’ Rudimental ‘A revelation’ The Scotsman Information Source: The Edge of the World Bookshop Ltd | eventbrite
