In recognition of the need for relaxation amidst the demands of activism, the programme has organized a series of Friday indie screening events. Thanks to generous donations from Canon and The National Lottery Community Fund, the Heroines Quarter is equipped with DSLR cameras, backdrops, lighting, art supplies, and machinery. This includes the ability to create art prints, scan 35mm film, produce stencil screen prints, and perform sublimation printing onto fabrics. The use of Adobe software is also available. Additionally, these sessions present an exciting opportunity for collaboration with like-minded individuals of the same age group.

Additionally, an image bank from walks and visits to the steam museum is available for those who have a passion for textiles but not photography. Join award-winning Bulgarian photographer Eugenia Maximova at the Using Photography to Tell Difficult Stories workshop in Gloucester. This thought-provoking workshop will guide participants through the process of using photography as a catharsis for traumatic experiences. Drawing on her own personal experience of loss and tragedy, Maximova will teach participants how to tell difficult stories through the art of photography.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, February 17th from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and on Sunday, February 18th from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. It is recommended to attend both sessions for the best experience. The workshops are free to attend, but donations are welcome.
During the first day of the workshop, participants will work as a group to create photographs and organize them into a narrative. The story will be based on a historical event in Gloucestershire, which will be revealed on the day. On the second day, participants will work individually and apply the concepts learned on the first day to create their own projects. They can either bring materials to tell their own story or choose from a selection provided.
The workshop will begin at 22 Kings Walk, where Eugenia will discuss her exhibited work Silent River. Participants will then move to the Hundred Heroines Atelier in the Eastgate Centre, where studio equipment, props, and cameras will be available for use. Both spaces are wheelchair accessible.
Please note that some participants may find the content of the workshop upsetting. If you feel affected by any of the issues addressed, please reach out to a member of the Hundred Heroines team for support.
This workshop is part of the programming around the MALEVOLENCE exhibition, which will be showing at 22 Kings Walk from February 15th to February 18th, 2024.
