Join me for a foraging walk, focusing on edible fungi and their look-a-likes. We will look at different mushroom families including the boletes (boletus), milk caps (lactarius) and brittle-gills (russula), exploring both edible and medicinal uses. Ambling through the trees and along the lochside we will explore how to make wild food a staple and the benefits of doing so - from the nutritional to the cultural and philosophical. Throughout the morning gather the basic skills required to identify common edibles as well as how to avoid poisonous & inedible lookalikes. Learn how to use foraged food and discover what it is like living on a completely wild diet. The walk should last ~3 hours with the opportunity to stay a little later to ask chat and ask questions. We will meet outside the visitor center, where coffee, meals and snacks are available. Suitable for all ages with children welcome - individual or family tickets. As we will finish by the playpark, this is the ideal loction for keen young foragers. The sessions are for children from P1-S2 who can already ride a bike without stabilisers and would like to build their confidence and learn new skills. We will provide support and a safe space to improve and learn whatever point they are at in their cycling journey. Each session will involve a warm up and fun games to gain more confidence in their cycling skills in a fenced, traffic free environment. The sessions are free and will be run by qualified cycling coaches. Bring a water bottle/snack/bike, helmet and gloves. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Please cancel your slot if unable to attend. We want to make sure as many children as possible can benefit from these sessions. Thank you! These taster sessions are for anyone who would like to try out skating. All ages welcome! Skates and protective equipment will be provided, but if you have your own please bring them along! The sessions are being delivered in partnership with Falkirk Wheelers. Each session is free and will be run by qualified coaches in a fenced, traffic free environment. You can book one or more sessions, but due to limited numbers please cancel your place if you are unable to attend.
