Although there are only 36 fixed characters, the roles are divided into four categories: Sheng, Dan, Bei, and Za, and 42 major dramas can be performed. Later In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, there were more than 50 puppet troupes in Quanzhou, covering the urban and rural areas.
