Who is the Artist?
My name is Palak Dhorajiya, and I am obsessed with creating imaginative art. Growing up in India, I always had a passion for art. At the time, I would make time within my busy schedule as a full-time student to attend workshops and art classes.
However, as time passed, education became my major priority. I relocated to Calgary, Canada, to pursue a career in Interior design. My art journey was a sacrifice; I almost let it slip. But passionate dreams leave you restless, as I soon discovered. Because during the pandemic, I suddenly had lots of free time to pursue my passion. And I did this by learning a new form of art called “Alcohol inks.”

Calgary
Reimagining Dementia Care: An Evening with Dr. Al Power
A Rare Opportunity to Learn from a Global Pioneer
Mount Royal University, Calgary | May 28, 2025 | 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Pre-event reception with light refreshments and Hors d’Oeuvres begins at 6:00 PM
Are we truly supporting people with dementia to live their best possible lives? Or are we still creating unnecessary barriers that isolate and diminish them?
Join us for an extraordinary evening with Dr. Al Power, internationally renowned dementia care expert and author of the groundbreaking book "Dementia Beyond Drugs," as he makes a special stop in Calgary during his international speaking tour.
Why This Event Matters
In communities worldwide, people living with dementia often face segregation, reduced autonomy, and diminished quality of life - even in settings designed to care for them. But it doesn't have to be this way.
Dr. Power brings a refreshingly positive and practical approach to transforming how we support people with dementia. Through compelling stories and evidence-based insights, he'll show how people living with dementia can:
· Remain active, valued members of their communities
· Experience meaningful engagement and connection
· Receive integrated care that respects their humanity and dignity
· Continue to contribute to the social fabric around them
What You'll Gain
Fresh Perspectives:
Discover innovative models of care being implemented globally that challenge traditional approaches to dementia support.
Practical Strategies:
Learn actionable ways that families, care providers, and community organizations can create more inclusive environments.
Renewed Hope:
Experience the inspiration that comes from knowing better approaches exist - and are already working in other communities.
Valuable Connections:
Network with like-minded professionals and community members passionate about improving dementia care during our pre-event reception.
About Dr. Al Power
Dr. Power is at the forefront of a global movement to transform dementia care. Working with communities across the world, he advocates for approaches that integrate rather than segregate, that focus on abilities rather than deficits, and that prioritize quality of life at every stage of the dementia journey.
His pioneering work challenges us to see beyond the diagnosis to the whole person, and his presentations blend scientific insight with compassionate understanding and practical wisdom.
Dr. Power is an internist, geriatrician, and Schlegel Chair in Ageing and Dementia Innovation at the Schlegel - University of Waterloo Research Institute for Ageing in Ontario, a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Rochester, NY, and an internationally recognized educator on transformational models of care for older adults, particularly those living with changing cognitive abilities. Dr. Power’s book, Dementia Beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of Care was named a 2010 Book of the Year by the American Journal of Nursing. His second book, Dementia Beyond Disease: Enhancing Well-Being was released by Health Professions Press in 2014 and the second edition of Dementia Beyond Drugs was released in 2017. He has given workshops and seminars on this topic in 18 countries across 5 continents.
Building a Better Calgary
This event isn't just about learning, it's about action. Dr. Power will be working directly with Calgary organizations to implement positive changes in our own community. Be part of this important conversation that will shape the future of dementia care in our city.
Space is limited. Register now to secure your attendance.
