Adamczyk and Drager will discuss memory, nostalgia, deja vu, and more in their novels, Island City and The Avian Hourglass. Laura Adamczyk is the author of the short story collection Hardly Children and the novel Island City, published in 2023 by FSG Originals. Her fiction has appeared in the Chicago Reader, Guernica, McSweeney’s, and other publications. Laura is the former books editor of The A.V. Club, and her criticism has appeared in 4 Columns and The Nation. She lives in Chicago. Lindsey Drager is the author of four books of fiction including The Archive of Alternate Endings, a novel that recycles the story of Hansel and Gretel, and The Avian Hourglass, a failed retelling of Pinocchio. These books have been listed as a “Best Book of the Year” in The Guardian and NPR; twice been named finalists for Lambda Literary Awards; and have been translated into Spanish and Italian. Recipient of a 2017 Shirley Jackson Award, a 2020 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Prose, and the 2022 Bard Fiction Prize, she is the fiction editor of West Branch and teaches in the PhD program in creative writing at the University of Utah.
