Yogic principles meets Acting Technique! In these workshops, we look at the connection between the 7 Major Chakras and Character Creation, through the 3 States of a Chakra – Balanced, Over Active and Under Active. By feeling how you hold your energy yourself, you can then shift this Energetic Signature into that of your Character’s, based on the text. Through engaging discussion and practical exercises, participants gain a deep understanding of how Chakra imbalances manifest in character physicality and psychology, and how it unconsciously contributes to their own lives off stage. We look at techniques that help identify and address these imbalances, allowing you to bring a sense of physical authenticity and impulse to your roles. All workshops include grounding techniques and guided meditation. “When I first took The Mindful Actor’s Workshop, I experienced a melding of my voice, my body and the text in a way I never knew was possible. Following Missy’s instruction and steps, I learned how experience shapes a character’s physicality and perspective.By using these tools, defining a character and tapping into the universality of story became easy for me. It allowed me to get out of my head and into the being of the character.”-Veenu Sandhu “I feel like I now have a secret that no other actors have. It goes much deeper than basic emotional and relaxation techniques which of course are necessary, but opening up each individual Chakra welcomes a new pocket of character.”-Laci J MaileyActing with the Chakras is right for you if: You’re a creative person wanting to get out of your box You want a new way in to your character work You feel disconnected to yourself or your body You feel blocked or uninspired & can’t figure out why or what to do about it Your nerves or lack of confidence get the best of you You want to feel physically, vocally & emotionally connected to your characters You want to stop being typecast You feel you need “thicker skin” for this business You want to let go of fears + limiting beliefs You’re looking for a way to begin or deepen your meditation practice You’re feeling called for something more and aren’t sure whatAbout Missy I’ve been teaching physical acting through the Chakra System with Mindful Actor Workshops since 2012. Developing these tools and technique has been my life’s work and exporation put into a course. I’m a Leo nominated actress, short film and theatre director, theatre producer, and for the last 11 years, I’ve been in the blues rock band, Wooden Horsemen. I specialize in Embodied Voice and Middendorf Breathwork, as well as grounding tools for easing nerves. My background as a Yin Yoga teacher has helped me to dovetail the tools into my acting work and teachings. I’ve also been working at Vancouver Film School for over 15 years, teaching Acting, Voice, On Camera Technique, Audition, Singing, Film Studies, Sitcom, Acting for Visual FX, On Set Coaching, Directing and Acting for the Edit. 11-5pm with a 1 hour break. $222 CAD Please sign up here and a link to confirm your registration and payment will be sent to you!
