Learn to cut and print a colour woodblock, registering two blocks in relation to each other for exciting results. Bring ideas or come with an open mind. All materials provided. Some previous experience with relief printing helpful but not essential. Merlyn Chesterman RE is a local printmaker and on the Council of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, exhibiting around the UK and internationally, as well as a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Merlyn was brought up in Hong Kong, returning to England to study Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art, under Adrian Heath in the 1960s. She then lived, travelled and exhibited in Asia for many years, spending time in Bhutan, Kashmir, China and Thailand, followed by some years in Minnesota, USA. Merlyn’s work is mostly about atmosphere – seeing and feeling what is around her. Driven by a sense of excitement, she works fundamentally at an abstract level with a secondary, literal surface. Themes include beauty, danger, remoteness, weather and mystery. Merlyn works with different woods, choosing boards for their particular character, and prints large prints on Okawara, Rives BFK and Somerset Satin. She uses oil-based, water-washable ink, often grading colour on the roller. One-day Child Protection Inter-Agency refresher course for delegates with safeguarding children responsibilities. This course is for those delegates who have already undertaken the 'Safeguarding Children Training Level 3 - Initial Training Course'. Group 3 and above are required to attend an inter-agency safeguarding update or refresher every 2 years.
This one-day Child Protection Inter-agency course is for delegates with safeguarding children responsibilities (named/designated staff) or those working regularly with children and young people and/or their parents/carers who have a professional organisational responsibility to learn more about child protection for safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing. You do not necessarily have to have lead responsibility for child protection matters. Participants should have a basic understanding of the guidance on safeguarding children, of their own roles and responsibilities and of the Assessment Framework.

Update knowledge and understanding of child abuse issues
Update knowledge of legislation and guidance
Update knowledge of agencies' roles and responsibilities in safeguarding children and young people - including referrals, reports and MASH
Awareness of lessons learned from serious case reviews and Ofsted briefings

Pharmacological Symptom Management | North Devon Hospice

This is a course for registered professionals who care for adults at the end of life. This in depth session for health care profesionals who wish to expand their knowledge about pharmacological treatment of breathlessness, secretions, pain, nausea and vomiting in addition to enhancing knowledge of treatment of confusion and agitation.
A light buffet lunch is included.

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at oil painting and simply don't know where to start, this beginners workshop with Amy Jobes will help unleash your creativity. Amy will guide you step by step to create an expressive landscape oil painting. This class will cover basic traditional techniques and methods, whilst helping you to let go of feeling anxious or precious about your work. This includes: Composition ideas, how to start using a sketch and ground, how to create depth with tone, working from dark to light, muted vs saturated colours, impasto mark marking. Merlyn Chesterman's passion for art developed during her time studying Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art in England. She has since exhibited her work around the UK and internationally, including at the prestigious Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Inspired by her travels in Asia and the United States, Merlyn's work explores themes of atmosphere, beauty, danger, remoteness, weather, and mystery. She works with various woods, carefully selecting boards for their unique qualities, and prints on high-quality papers using oil-based, water-washable ink.
During this workshop, participants will learn the basic concepts of relief printmaking using wood and become familiar with the necessary tools and materials. The objectives include developing artistic control in creating black and white woodcuts, maintaining and sharpening tools, and selecting suitable blocks and paper. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have the skills and knowledge to confidently create woodcut prints at home with minimal investment.

In this hands-on class, you will be inspired by the fantastic shapes and vibrant colors of vegetables to create your own unique stencils. You will also have the opportunity to incorporate real leaves, thread, and netting into your prints. By learning the techniques of inking up and using a small printing press, you will be able to produce up to four high-quality prints, each measuring 17 x 24cm.
Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, this workshop is designed for everyone. Drawings will be available to trace, ensuring that beginners feel comfortable and can fully participate. All materials are included, so you can simply come and enjoy the creative process.
Annabel Hill, a talented designer and printmaker, draws inspiration from the natural environment surrounding her studio in Appledore, North Devon. Her Textile Design degree has equipped her with the skills to create patterns derived from images and drawings of plant life. She has honed her focus on botanical imagery from hedgerows and rock pools in North Devon, using her collection of presses to create a diverse range of prints. These prints are then transformed into patterns using digital software and transferred onto natural fabrics. In addition to monoprinting, Annabel also creates block prints and screen prints.

The Mossy Carpet, organized by the Art & Energy Collective, is a mass participation massive artwork project inspired by mosses. Over 8000 people of all ages have contributed to creating a 19m mossy carpet so far. The collective aims to involve over 100,000 individuals and produce a 100m carpet by 2025, seeking all the assistance available. Participants will also have the chance to share their small environmental actions via the Tardigrade telephone while working on the project. Tardigrades, resilient microscopic creatures living in moss, will capture your messages and later vocalize them from the completed carpet as part of the artwork. Alison Lam, a neurodiverse British-Chinese artist, social practitioner, and educator, will be hosting free workshops for neurodiverse individuals and their parents/caregivers at Studio KIND. at The Corn Store in Barnstaple. As part of her touring exhibition and workshop program, "Mind The Gap," she will guide participants in creating 3D sculptures with paper, drawing inspiration from origami lotus flowers featured in her exhibition. Through her personal experience as a parent of two autistic sons, Alison has developed a unique approach to art that captures moments of overwhelm, happiness, and sadness. Tailored to different age groups and individual needs, the sessions will include trust-building exercises, movement breaks, and quiet moments. Participants will have the opportunity to be filmed during the workshops, with their consent, to create a film. Session 1, taking place on April 25th, is specifically for individuals under 18, who must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/carer. Limited spots are available for each session, except for Session 4, which is open to all ages as a drop-in activity.
