Join artists Jane Bodnaruk, Mel Booth, and Sue Jo Wright for a conversation about their work with textiles, embroidery and how these mediums have been appropriated as tools for activism, feminism, and challenging gender norms throughout history. Inspired by Rozsika Parker’s classic book The Subversive Stitch(1984), which redefined embroidery as a powerful feminist art form, this discussion will provide insights into how textiles have evolved from traditional crafts into dynamic expressions of social resistance. The conversation will be led by Billie Phillips, Assistant Curator at the Biennale of Sydney. Exhibitions featuring the work of Jane Bodnaruk, Sue Jo Wright, and Mel Booth will be on display from November 13 to December 8, 2024.
