Come take a unique guided tour with Peter Aylmer and his book ‘Harlow Sculpture Walks, Exploring the New Town Collection’. Peter’s tour will be more than about sculpture as you will also gain an appreciation of the layout of Harlow, and the planning principles that Sir Frederick Gibberd brought to the town. The tour also includes a visit to the Gibberd Gallery where you can view the exhibition ‘John Graham Collection’ exhibition, as well as view the ‘Sir Frederick Gibberd Watercolour Collection’. Peter Aylmer lives in Sheering, the first village east out of Harlow. His rich understanding of Essex and its countryside started young, visiting his uncle’s farm in the Roding’s. Since discovering walking as a young man, he’s since climbed many hills and walked many long-distance paths all over Britain, but still relishes the surprise on people’s faces when he tells them that some of his favourite walking is within his home county. As well as his Trailman series, Peter is the author of the Cicerone Press guides ‘Walking in Essex’ (second edition, 2019 and ‘Walking in London’ (second edition, 2023). You will also have an opportunity to purchase your own copy of ‘Harlow Sculpture Walks’ on the day or you can purchase prior at the Gibberd Gallery, Civic Centre Harlow. The price of the guide is £8 with £2 going towards the Harlow Art Trust. Private View - Mainly Multiples by Alan Burgess Saturday 16 November, 2pm - 4pm Free Admission Harlow Art Trust warmly invites you to the Private View of Mainly Multiples, Paintings by Alan Burgess, celebrating both his artistic career and 20 years of the Gibberd Gallery. At the opening of the Gibberd Gallery, the late Lady Patricia Gibberd acquired Alan Burgess’s watercolour ‘Arnision Crag Triptych’ for the Sir Frederick Gibberd Permanent Watercolour Collection where it still resides today. This exhibition will feature landscape works spanning across Alan’s career, including his signature multiple pieces. In addition, there will be previously unseen artworks. Alan earned his painting qualification at Colchester School of Art, where he won the landscape painting prize. After exhibiting at the Young Contemporaries in London, he balanced his passion for painting with a teaching career in painting, drawing, and art history. Since moving to Roydon, Essex, in 1968, Alan returned to landscape painting, working directly outdoors. His notable series, Fifty Great British Trees, has been exhibited at six venues, including the National Arboretum at Westonbirt. Beyond art, Alan has made significant contributions to tree conservation in his community, identifying rare trees and organising plantings. His work with veteran trees inspired a series of tree portraits, including a black poplar selected by the Tree Council as a Great British Tree. The exhibition runs from Saturday 9 November – Saturday 7 December. It is open every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am – 4pm.
