Hillside Inside Presents LOGAN STAATS & KATIE TUPPER | Royal City Mission

Jan 31, 2025 (UTC-5)
Guelph
Concerts
Folk
LOGAN STAATS Mohawk rocker turned folk and soul musician Logan Staats began as a diamond in the rough on the streets of Brantford, Ontario. He had no formal musical training, no connections, just a good ear and raw lyrical talent- and always a guitar in hand. He played the local circuit for years before his 2015 debut release ‘Goodbye Goldia’, an unvarnished yet hard hitting solo acoustic album. He went on to win CTV’s ‘The Launch’ in 2018, gaining commercial success and touring across North America and Europe. But traveling the world can really open your eyes to what's going on right at home, and the fight for indigenous sovereignty has become a focal point for Staats in recent years. It all intermingles with the music; the passion, the rage, the love, and most of all the healing. He's making roadtrippin' music for those traveling 'the red road'; a path towards reconnecting and relearning indigenous ways. “I wanted to bring my songwriting back to the medicine inside of music, to the medicine inside of reclamation,” he says. This is the philosophy behind his sophomore album ‘A Light In The Attic’, released 2023. These songs are a healing salve, contemplatively composed and offered to listeners in need of comfort. His sound draws heavily from the rich blues and rock legacy of Six Nations. His music has garnered a Juno nomination, multiple Native American Music Awards, and the SOCAN Indigenous Songwriter of the year. Nowadays, he splits his time between his home community Six Nations, and Nashville, where he’s cooking up a southern country-flavored third album. KATIE TUPPER Beneath the painted hues and infinite prairie skies of Saskatoon – a city in the heart of Canada – lies a soulful, creative spirit that proves there’s much more to the so-called ‘fly-over states’ than grassland and grain silos.Katie Tupper embodies that spirit and is determined to show there’s an entire world of boundary-pushing, genre-defying artists at work within the often overlooked region. Tupper's two EPs, ‘Towards The End’ and ‘Where To Find Me’, received glowing acclaim from tastemakers like Zane Lowe and indie music press like Ones To Watch, Exclaim, Under The Radar, and FLOOD Magazine. She appeared on eTalk and recorded a filmed television performance for CBC. Tupper was one of three participants selected to be part of the 2023 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class, been nominated for a JUNO Award, and won several Western Canadian Music Awards, including BreakOut Artist of the Year in 2023. Hillside Inside Presents GOLDEN FEATHER & Special Guests THE VAUDEVILLIAN | Royal City Mission

Feb 1, 2025 (UTC-5)
Guelph
Concerts
GOLDEN FEATHER Golden Feather is a project inspired by the love of bands that like to jam and take their listeners on a musical journey. Steven Kiely and Bradley Germain have been close friends for years, but had just finally gotten to writing music together in the early part of 2019. What started out as a weekly hang for the two in Brad’s basement recording demos, quickly turned into them having to find more like minded musicians to help them bring their musical ideas to life. The group was set to play its first show in March 2020 when the global pandemic hit, suddenly ending all hopes of live performance. Brad and Steve, along with bassist Ronson and guitarist Chris Wheeler worked on the songs remotely and ended up recording their debut EP, titled “Light On Water”, which they released themselves in November 2020. Not long after the release of Light On Water, Gareth Inkster joined the group on keys to complete the original, definitive lineup. Chris Wheeler and the band amicably parted ways in January of 2023, and not long after, part-time guest saxophonist Murray Heaton joined the band as a full-time member. Daniel Walton also joined the group as a full time member playing lead guitar in June of 2024, thus completing the definitive line-up of the band. Golden Feather has gone on to independently release Light On Water’s follow up EP “In Air” in early 2022 and have released the “Now & Then” EP (September, 2022), a live album “Welcome\\Release” (June, 2023) and their first full length, self-titled album “Golden Feather” (September, 2024) all on Hamilton’s Sonic Unyon Records. Seeing the band live is where you get to really see what they’re all about. It’s very much a two way transfer of energy between the crowd and the stage. They’re not afraid to explore their music and try new things out, especially in front of a live audience. Golden Feather shows are full of dancing, sing alongs, and good vibes, something that has to be experienced for yourself to believe. Come watch the Feather Fly! THE VAUDEVILLIAN Jugband Ragtime Blues The jugband tunes from the Saugeen Shores, Ontario, Canada based, Award Winning Blues duo, The Vaudevillian consists of the old fashioned gentleman, Jitterbug James & sweet & sassy Norah Spades. Join Ellie's Sip N' Pour Workshop at Royal City Brewing in Guelph! Explore a world of artistic possibilities as you experiment with an array of colors, techniques, and tools to create your very own masterpiece. During the workshop, you'll have several options to choose from. The 10X20 Artist Canvas is a versatile choice, offering a glossy finish and a gessoed surface. It's perfect for beginners looking to create something truly unique. For those interested in a pour technique, the 8X10 Artist Canvas Pour is an excellent choice. You can opt for a single, double, or triple panel pour, all with a smooth gesso finish. Pouring across multiple panels simultaneously creates a stunning flowing design that will enhance any wall. If you prefer a different canvas option, the 10X20 Birch Panel Pour is a top-quality choice. These artist-grade birch panels, made in Canada by Apollon-Gotrick, are cradled on a 3/4 frame and are perfect for hanging. For a smaller project, consider the 4PC Coaster Set Pour. This option includes four blank ceramic coasters with self-adhesive cork backings. Once your artwork is dry, you can use the Liquitex High Gloss Varnish kit to add a glossy sealer, providing a professional finish. Lastly, the 10" Birch Clock Pour allows you to create your own fully functional clock. Pour paint onto the round Apollon-Gotrick birch panel, and then take home a kit with everything you need to assemble the clock, including the mechanism, arms, numbers, and an easy-to-use template. Remember, all artworks need to remain at the venue to dry for a minimum of 7 days. You can pick up your creations 7-14 days after the event. Choose between black or gold clock parts during the workshop. This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to unleash your creativity and explore the world of art. Don't miss out!
