Inspired to study architecture by her uncle in Colombia and inspirations by her aunt’s oil paintings were just the beginning of Maria’s enjoyable journey. Now she finds that traveling moves her to capture light, color, form or even a memory wherever she goes. This discovery of new places stimulates her mind. What started as a professor’s requirement to keep a sketchbook for her architecture classes at Texas A&M quickly became exciting watercolor sketchbooks and then paintings that could be shared with family and friends. Right after college in the early 1990's her travels in Mexico brought about 2 exhibits in the state of San Luis Potosi. Later she married and began painting on a much larger basis. Together they continue to travel often enjoying a symbolic bottle of wine together as she records their memories. Such travels generated enough pieces for 2 more exhibits in Houston, Texas during 2014-2017. Currently, while serving on the board of the Gold Coast Watercolor Society, a group dedicated to helping artists grow, she is able to continue to display her art around the area. A native of Puerto Rico, Frank often approaches photography as a documentarian with a twist. Most of his images are taken in real-life situations, sometimes with an altered approach. Viewers are invited to participate in moments passed, moments they will never partake in because he was the only one there to witness the scene. Photography is a critical aspect of the society in which we live. Images can educate in all aspects of everyday life. Without it, we are left only with the spoken and written word. Frank's mixed media creations, paintings, drawings, and art installations often represent some of his feelings and emotions and ongoing social issues. Frank finds a lot of satisfaction in the array of projects and events he creates through his 501 c (3) nonprofit organization, South Florida Lending Hands, such as his flagship art event, ART13. One of his latest achievements includes the selection of his photo art piece SAVE ME, a picture of a turtle selected by The United Nations Environment Programme and the Climate Museum of New York. The image was printed on an eco-friendly, biodegradable flag and became part of The Flag Project at Rockefeller Center in New York. The flag flew high during the entire month of April 2022 at Rockefeller Center with one hundred and ninety-two other selected works of art focusing on what really matters — Only One Earth”, the name of the exhibit. Frank has been commissioned by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the City of Oakland Park, and the City of Pompano Beach, and his photos are currently displayed on Utility Boxes at various intersections of those cities in the form of public art. One Life-Live It About Sharon Pollak: Sharon Pollak was born, raised and educated in Connecticut. As a graduate of the University of Connecticut she worked in the field of marketing using her artistic touch to create promotional material for several New England manufacturing companies. She has always had a passion for art and has been thoroughly immersed in her painting career for the past 16 years. Primarily self-taught she has studied with several well-respected artists in CA, FL, NM, and AZ. Sharon is now a full-time resident of Delray Beach. His goal with his art is to portray his view on the issues surrounding the interactions of people. His medium of choice is acrylic paint but also explores oils and charcoal. Melvin is a published cartoonist and the creator of the 1993 comic strip “Jail Times” in the Keepers’ Voice magazine. He has no limit on art expression in his paintings. In more recent years, Melvin decided to focus on bold acrylics colors and has been steadily evolving as an artist. By the most recent Post-COVID studies of human behavior. Melvin’s body of work is a direct response to the growing complexities we now face in every age, race, culture, and gender. Melvin’s intentions are to bring awareness, tolerance, and healing. Melvin has been a Law Enforcement Officer for over 30 years at the Broward Sheriff’s Office. He’s currently the Department of Law Enforcement Training Sergeant. Melvin and Claire have been married for over 30 years and have seven adult children and four grandchildren. About Elieen: Eileen Shaloum is a painter and mixed media artist who searches for and employs the whimsical in her subject matter. Her work evokes the joy and innocence one usually finds in children’s art. Having been an art educator in the public schools on Long Island, New York, for over thirty years influenced much of her art making, an abstract process with childlike sophistication. Her colors are often bold, and her compositions alternate between ordered and loose, but always playful. She enjoys adding handmade and found papers, fabric, photographs, string and other found objects to her acrylic paint to give the surface a textural quality. Her present body of work has also been influenced by the writings of Italo Calvino in his book, “Invisible Cities.” The imaginary landscapes conjured by Calvino beckoned to her to interpret them on canvas and paper, which led to her unique, fantastical semi-landscape style which she calls “Dreamscapes.” She invites viewers into these paintings where they can climb stairs and ladders to nowhere while winding their way through picture planes on shapes, textures and colors that guide their eyes through these spirited compositions. Since 2016, Eileen has been experimenting on loose canvas, sewing and gluing canvas shapes into compositions that hang on a bar or rod. These pieces are not too different in style than her paintings on stretched canvas other than the fact that her shapes become the picture plane without being confined to the typical rectangle or square. She embellishes these surfaces with fabric, string, ribbons, buttons, jewels, beads, trimmings, and all sorts of odds and ends, which adds even more texture. These “wall hangings” are two dimensional, but with a three-dimensional sensibility. As her latest endeavor, she creates mini “Jewel Boxes.” In these wood shadow boxes, she positions her fabric collages, sewn, glued and embellished much like the work on her wall hangings. Eileen has been an artist for more than forty years. Her work is in several private collections in the United States and England. She exhibits widely throughout the United States, mostly in New York and Florida. About Michael: By the time Michael Mills began his life as an artist in 2009, he had already accumulated more than two decades of experience in areas related to the visual arts: as an editor at movie and video magazines, as a film critic at The Palm Beach Post (1987-1995), and as host of the 80-film series Tuesday Afternoon at the Movies (1997-2002). He has also worked as a freelance writer, editor, and consultant for multiple local, regional, and national publications. Along the way he received awards in criticism writing from the Florida Press Association, the Florida Press Club, and two chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists. He has also been a guest expert on radio shows focusing on the arts and has lectured on film and art at such venues as Lynn University and Nova Southeastern University. Between 2004 and 2007 he worked at the Museum of Art / Fort Lauderdale as communications manager and senior editor, producing exhibition catalogs for nearly a dozen major shows and co-curating the 2005 South Florida Cultural Consortium exhibit. And for 15 years, from 1997 to 2012, he was the art critic at New Times Broward / Palm Beach, reviewing hundreds of museum and gallery shows from Palm Beach County to northern Miami-Dade. His first artworks were analog photographs made with an old Canon 35mm camera, a gift from his parents soon after he moved to South Florida in 1986. Shortly before the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, he started drawing on paper using metallic inks. Since then, he has explored digital photography and, more recently, collages and mixed-media works. His art has been featured in more than 200 group exhibitions, and in solo shows at Anne Kolb Nature Center, Aperitivo Gallery at Bona Italian Restaurant, Broward Art Guild Gallery, Coral Springs Museum of Art, and Stork’s Bakery & Café. Among his more than two dozen recognitions are Best Photograph in ArtExplosion 2011 and four Best in Show awards, including one from a national juried biennial through the Gainesville Fine Arts Association. He is a longtime member of both Broward Art Guild and ArtsUnited of Florida. His artworks are in more than 40 private collections. He lives and works in Wilton Manors, Florida About Shahina: Shahina was born in India and moved to the United States in the 1970s. She found her passion for art at a young age, and while a pharmacist by trade, Shahina has managed to keep the artist in her alive over the years. Shahina is self-taught, which has enabled her to try new methods and develop her own style. She is best known for her work on large canvases. Painting gives Shahina a great sense of pleasure and soothes her mind. When she sees bare walls, she can hear them screaming for art. Her brush strokes are guided by her feelings in the moment, leading to some of the most inspiring and unique pieces of art. Shahina covers many different styles including abstract art, fluid art, and realistic art. About Karen: Karen has been painting and making jewelry since 1981. Her award-winning paintings range from urban city scenes to local seascapes, flowers, and fauna. She draws inspiration from her travels and the environments she has lived in, including Northeastern Ohio, Chicago, and South Florida.
