Join wildlife photographer Alex Hyde for a talk to discover the wonderfulworld of Fungi Up Close. Alex has revealed unimaginable beauty, often unnoticed.Come and discover fascinating facts about fungi and hear Alex describe tips andtricks for photographing the natural world yourself. As well as a formalpresentation, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about thephotographic techniques Alex uses and a discussion about what we can do to helpbiodiversity. Tickets are £3 and the event is suitable for adults. Fungi are remarkable organisms that form a diverse kingdom comprising approximately 144,000 known species. They play essential roles in ecosystems, from decomposing organic matter to forming symbiotic relationships with plants. Mycelium are the unseen parts of fungi, long threads (called hyphae) hidden beneath the forest floor. This mycelial network facilitates nutrient exchange, water transport and electrical communication creating a hidden lifeline of mutual support and resource sharing beneath our feet. A selection of Alex's photographs from these visits have been used to create the touring exhibition that will be on show at Worksop Sat 11 January - Thursday 27 February.

The Harley Pottery Studio presents the 6-week Introduction to Pottery, a weekly course specially designed for beginners who are eager to explore the world of clay art. This comprehensive course offers a unique opportunity to learn various hand-building techniques, such as pinch, coiling, and slab building, along with a focus on surface texture and color. Each week, participants will be introduced to a new skill that can be personalized to reflect their individual style.
The course takes place over six consecutive Wednesday afternoons or Friday mornings, starting on the selected date. The course fee includes all the necessary materials, including clay, as well as glazing and firing for up to six items. For those interested in glazing and firing additional pieces, there is a nominal fee based on the size of the object.
Moreover, participants have the option to extend their studio time with the Self-Guided Studio Access, which allows for independent work in the studio. Although this session is not led by an instructor, tutor support will be available upon request, ensuring a fulfilling experience for all participants.
The Friday morning course is taught by Ruth Waller, an accomplished contemporary textile artist and co-founder of Waller Hewett. Ruth's expertise and creativity have earned her numerous awards, including 'Best in Show' at the London Craft Fair. On Wednesday afternoons, Dee Barnes, a talented ceramicist and experienced tutor, guides participants through the Introduction to Pottery course. Dee's background in classical and contemporary dance adds a unique perspective to her creations.
To secure a place in this exceptional pottery course, participants are required to complete a short registration form upon booking. The event is partially funded by Inspire: Libraries, Museums, and Culture, and its accessibility and affordability are made possible through the generous support of Nottinghamshire County Council.

This heartfelt and mischievous performance explores the notion that lines don't always have to be straight, and that zig zags and curves can create their own magic. Our protagonist encounters a world where the meaning of "stop" can be flipped with "go," and where the right path may not always be apparent. It's a world that can feel confusing, leaving one feeling excluded and naughty for not grasping the rules. Suitable for children aged 3-6 and their families, Boxed In offers an immersive experience that challenges the understanding of rules in a playful and thought-provoking manner.
