In conversation with CBC KW's Joe Pavia. Brian Stewart is a trusted voice who brought stories of the world home to Canadians for decades on CBC’s The National . In his powerful new memoir, he reveals the pressures, joys, and traumas of witnessing history up close and personal, shining a light on the most exciting and most horrifying moments of the late 20th century. Now, for the first time, he is sharing his experience of the cost, both personal and professional, of bringing truth home from around the world. This knife making course is a 2 day intensive. Students will learn the detailed process of making a proper high-end handmade knife. This course will teach you every step for forging a hidden tang knife; from creating the blade from a raw piece of high carbon steel, to the final finishing of the wooden handle. A hidden tang knife is one where you cannot see how the blade is fixed to the handle, as the back part of knife is completely hidden. You will use a traditional coke forge to heat the steel, and hand hammering techniques to create the blade profile. After sanding and filing it to a refined shape, you will learn how to heat treat it by hardening and tempering it in the fire. You will then learn how to properly sharpen the blade’s edge. To finish off the knife, you will make a wooden handle from scratch, filing and sanding it to a beautiful finish, and then sealing it with oil. UK Calling: The Sound of an Era, Reimagined UK Calling brings to life the hits that most wouldn’t dare touch—Bronski Beat, The Style Council, The Cure—this is the soundtrack of a generation, performed with intensity, nuance, and flair. What sets this band apart isn’t just the setlist—it’s the spirit. More than just vintage sunglasses and a synth preset, this seven-piece outfit, complete with a full horn section, delivers a live show that’s electric, authentic, and relentlessly energetic. They don’t coast on nostalgia; they ignite it. From the unmistakable mood of Joy Division to the kinetic punch of Madness and the layered elegance of Tears for Fears, UK Calling doesn’t just play the songs—they inhabit them. And with Peter James Fox at the helm—a frontman whose tenor voice is as commanding as it is captivating—audiences are swept into a full-bodied experience that’s impossible to resist. Described by fans as “just like the old CFNY,” UK Calling is Canada’s definitive tribute to the golden age of British alternative music. Think New Wave, 2 Tone Ska, and Post-Punk. No power ballads, no pop queens—just the cool, the bold, and the unforgettable. Since 2018, they’ve been filling venues and keeping dance floors alive across Ontario. If you know the era, you’ll find your favorites here. If you don’t, you’re about to discover why it mattered. Information Source: UK Calling | eventbrite

Goat Fest 2025 is Canada’s hottest celebration of heat, hops, and high energy! Set at the legendary Concordia Club in Kitchener and part of the official KW Oktoberfest lineup, Goat Fest brings together the boldest hot sauces, the chillest craft drinks, and the amazing live entertainment — including a headlining performance by JJ Wilde . With 30+ hot sauce makers , 15+ beers and beverage vendors , Canada’s largest selection of Hot Ones sauces , food trucks , games, and all-ages fun , this is one spicy Saturday you don’t want to miss. -Hot Sauces- Sample from over 30 top hot sauce makers from across North America — including Canada’s largest Hot Ones sauce showcase ! From mild and flavourful to face-melting fire, there’s something for every palate. Meet the makers, try exclusive drops, and test your heat tolerance in wild spicy challenges. Plus, meet legendary guests like Smokin’ Ed Currie (creator of the Carolina Reaper & Pepper X), Guinness World Record holder Mike Jack , and OG Hot Ones Camera Guy Bill — all making spicy waves at Goat Fest 2025! -Beverages- Cool the flames with 15+ of Ontario’s best breweries, distilleries, and craft bevvy makers. Sip seasonal pours, signature cocktails, and creative collabs — all curated to keep your mouth refreshed and your vibe high. Don’t miss the Caesar Bar , serving up bold, spicy twists on Canada’s classic cocktail. Bonus: Free milk for the heat-wrecked, courtesy of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. -Food- Fuel up with local food trucks and festival eats designed to pair perfectly with spicy sauces and cold drinks. Get your hands on crispy wings that you can have sauced by your favourite hot sauce makers , or hit up the Oyster Bar for a briny, bold break from the heat. Whether you’re craving BBQ, handhelds, or something sweet to cut the spice, there’s plenty to keep you satisfied all day long. -Party!- Chart-topping, JUNO Award-winning rocker JJ Wilde brings the fire to Goat Fest 2025! With over 36 million streams and multiple #1 hits — including the SOCAN Award-winning “The Rush” — JJ made history as the first woman to top all three Canadian rock charts simultaneously. She’s toured with Pearl Jam, Kiss, and Incubus, and her electrifying live shows have lit up stages at Bottle Rock, Firefly, and more. Fresh off the release of Best Of Me (Part 1) , JJ hits the stage at Concordia Club for a high-voltage hometown show you won’t forget. Eddy & The Dirty Boys were born in lockdown when longtime pals Jay Emmons (The Glorious Sons) and Mike “Monty” Montgomery set out to make songs that are loud, loose, and unapologetically fun. Blending country grit with rock swagger, they channel The Faces, The Stones, and a little Jimmy Buffett on a bender. The live show hits like a whiskey shot—fast and gritty—driven by Emmons’ growl and Montgomery’s tasteful leads, with a powerhouse lineup: Steve Kirstein (Local Pressure, The Glorious Sons) on rhythm guitar, Adam Paquette (The Glorious Sons) on drums, and Claude Northey (Boston Levi) on bass. Their raucous take on Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” lands this summer. Information Source: Ginger Goat Hot Sauce | eventbrite
