A fleet of original figures escape from the urgency of NOW. Look! A dance DRAWS ITSELF OUT ... because, for a fixed time frame of 40 minutes, we're watching for it. An INSTANT DANCE nonchoreographed with NOTHING as reference. Keep everyone guessing -- especially yourself. MOVE STRANGER, IN STRANGE LAND. First Sunday, December 1st, 2024 Crescent Arts Centre, 525 Wardlaw Ave., Winnipeg, MB door: 6:45pm | show: 7pm by donation a dance performance by IAN S. MOZDZEN Ian Mozdzen hails from rural Manitoba and has been activating the stage for over 20 years with dance and performance. Original creations have caused international stirs and taken Ian across Canada and around the world. In addition to ongoing independent presence in Winnipeg’s performance scene, Ian has been repeatedly presented within Toronto’s Buddies in Bad Times Theatre Rhubarb Festival; additional engagements have included Toronto’s Dance: Made in Canada, Montreal’s Edgy Women Festival and Art Souterrain, Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers’ subscription series, Vancouver’s Dancing on the Edge Festival and Edmonton’s Mile Zero Dance, with additional performances in New York, Philadelphia, Charleston, Greece, Sri Lanka, Bulgaria, around India, including also a dance-on-video screening in Turkey. Ian is honoured to have created/performed with the likes of seasoned artists like Tedd Robinson, Doug Melnyk, Tom Stroud, D-Anne Kuby, Derek Brueckner and Jeff Peeling (in addition to a plethora of emerging artists). Ian has also engaged in the coaching of performers, orchestrated/programmed local dance variously and assisted leaders within the University of Winnipeg’s Theatre Department, Young Lungs Dance Exchange, Winnipeg's India School of Dance, Music and Theatre and Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers. Educated/practiced comprehensively in popular, expressive, conceptual, instant, classical and ritual dance forms — in addition to nearly 20 years of figure model practice within innumerable galleries and schools — Ian has now moved to cultivate new terrain for dance practice. Since 2021, Ian has independently launched close to 100 instant dance initiatives which have seen an array of partnerships and collaborations. Attracting natural dancers of all experience levels, Ian has presented/performed a PEOPLE dance series, a 3-day independent dance festival, an indoor/outdoor dance series, a dance lab trilogy, a year-long monthly new dance series, an ongoing draw + dance happening at Winnipeg’s aceartinc. gallery (PEOPLE FIGURE), as well as many single-engagement dance/live works. Encouraged by the community, Ian launched an INSTANT DANCE WORKSHOP early 2023 and then formalized the practice as SCHOOL OF NATURAL DANCERS, wherein YOU ARE ALREADY A WORK OF ART.

The pull to move with the music emerges, and hesitancy falls away. Sheena Legrand channels this in “Back To Life” - her latest offering to the world since 3 full-length albums as Sheena Grobb. Listening to her music, there is a comfort, a familiarity, a remembering who we are. Expect this WCMA-nominated indie-folk/pop songwriter, originally from Treherne, MB, to serve as a generous helping of sweet melodic hooks, intricate keys, and delicately layered vocals reminiscent of her earlier work, with an electrifying live loop experience that will be sure to get your body moving. Sheena’s songwriting reflects the inner strength, playfulness, and electricity that exists when standing on the edge of our infinite potential. Her audiences live happily on that edge with her where the journey really begins. Check out Sheena’s latest singles “Green Light” and “Heroes In The Making”- now available on all platforms.
