Centre Création Danse Nyata Nyata

Mouvement Perpétuel
. “Intercultural Encounters” spotlights this year the Franco-Congolese dancer, writer and choreographer 
Zab Maboungou 
and her company Centre Création Danse Nyata Nyata.

In this silent five-minute single-channel video installation, we "hear" louder than any voice can tell. This documentary is a poetic response from women in the diaspora to the patriarchal coercion imposed on women in Iran.

Reality is the moments we go through and life is hidden in the settings where we experience these moments.
Seen
 (Ashley Mae Johnston, 2022, 9 min)
Seen investigates the ways in which the realization, acknowledgment, and acceptance of being observed by others affects how we show up within our physical bodies. It explores ideas about autonomy of the body, and its use as a source of power, liberation, and authentic connection to our psyche.
Maboungou: Being in the World
 
(Philip Szporer & Marlene Millar, 2023, 49 min)
Meet Franco-Congolese dancer, choreographer, and philosopher Zab Maboungou. For over thirty years, she has galvanized the Montréal contemporary dance scene by masterfully observing the moments that define our place in the world. Through interviews and archives, learn how her personal and political history, her artistry, and her pioneering research into rhythm cultures have contributed to empowering and creating a sense of belonging for other African dance artists in Canada and abroad.
